Im planning to swap the LCX 37 on the bow of my boat for either a HB 998 or 1198. Im slightly concerned that the physical size of the 1198 could be an issue up front. Ive searched high and low…can find lots of dash pics of 1197 installs but no bow pics. Also, those running an 1197 up front – are you using a short or long arm RAM mount?tnx in advance, edwinAdvantages are taken, not handed out…
This is the best pic that I can find that actually shows how it is mounted. Its not mine so I cant tell you anything about the Ram mount size or anything.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Here is a picture of my HDS-10 on my Puma, close in fiscal size.
Here is a HB 1197 with a short arm on my P4. There are others pictures in my profile. Let me know if you would like other taken for you. Eric

The best advice I can give you is get the biggest RAM mount available. Also, I wish I would have put an 1197 at the bow as well. I have one on my console. The extra detail over the 997 is well worth it.
perfect…tnx folks!!!Advantages are taken, not handed out…
hey basscatp4. i have a couple of question if you dont mind..im installing a 898 on the bow of my PII… did you use screws or bolts and nuts to hold down your ram base? and how many?how did you mount the antenna for the unit where it is? and how did you get in there to mount it?
I would also like to know the answers that CYIWORKMORE asked and Im wondering how to bolt through with an aluminum backing. I heard one guy say he had his young child crawl up the starboard rod locker and reach up there, but there has to be another way.Thanks,-Kent
I ended up using 5/16″ hardware with large washers / nylock nuts on the underside. I super-glued the washers to the nuts so theyd stay as a unit when set in a socket. Grabbed the longest handled ratchet I had, was easily able to hold the washer / nut combo (crawling in as far as possible via the stbd rod locker) while the wife tightened from above. I used all 4 of the mounting holes on the RAM base…Advantages are taken, not handed out…
edwin did you have an aluminum plate underneath? or was your washer directly to the fiberglass?
I have an 06 PIV with a 997c si mounted on a tall RAM mount. I used 1/4 SS Molly bolts in 4 places and filled with RTV. As far as I can tell very stout and stable. You have to have a small tool to grip the flange till the bolt gets pulled into placejwt

I could see using a long ratchet to put the nuts on but how the heck am I going to get an aluminum plate on there???BCB any tricks?? Am I barking up the wrong tree here? Thanks,Kent
Kent – I wanted to put a plate underneath but it just didnt look like a possibility. I used large washers directly against the underside…its rock solid.Advantages are taken, not handed out…
Since it was not a standard OEM install here on a Bass Cat we have not answered this one, though steered clear till now. Hard for us to give the how to information on these as we try to do them here in a different manner. The question is on the mounting of the plates, and we would access that either through the rod locker, or we have used a 6″ access plate under the foot pedal for the troller. The unit on a RAM mount we have done several of though dont have a picture handy. There is probably one in the Bass Cat Boats by Serial Number albums. Thanks Joey for finding the image below, it is extremely busy here now and we cant always find time to dig up a pic or figure out the options that a 1991 model was built with in the spring. And even what the Wild Cards are or other questions about the Owners Invitational. The questions we try to handle are those we can get to with the most need during these times. It seems that many of the questions have ramped up in volume and spread in range of what the question is and we really appreciate those who have jumped in and assisted us.
