A 2.5 inch ball mount like the RAM-D-111U-C can support upto 15lbs. If you need more than that we have an E Series Ball that is 3.38″ and can support 20lbs. Second we offer a lifetime warranty on our parts so if 1.5″ ball you have is damaged you can submit a warranty claim, just follow the steps there and we can get you a replacement.And as far as the Ram Ball being rubber, yes it is and there is a reason, it provides a better mounting than harder materials.
