i bet MILLERs today at the ELITES is thinking about it. video showed he may need some new underwear! guess he was swinging for the fences at the dam.
Im sorry but i had to post the following on their fb page:BASS should be ashamed of themselves for allowing anglers to fish in certain areas of this river, during the current conditions. You want to preach safety and call off events for dangerous winds, then you allow anglers to go up into waters and dam near throw marshalls out of boats due to a “pro” running up on rocks in an unnavigable part of the river. Where clearly no bass boat belongs and is just simply irresponsible not setting area that should be deemed off limits during inclement conditions. Then to highlight it on one of your shows is a complete disgrace to supporting boating safety. To BASS and Dave Mercer Im truly surprised at your poor lack of judgement and poor comments about this entire episode. Good job at teaching the future generations about safe boating techniques and that the all mighty dollar is worth risking lives.People want o understand why the govt and the TVA or arkansa corp of engineers are restricting the boatng below dams, It because of absolute disregard for boating safety in videos like this. Chasing little green fish and the almighty dollar is absolutely asinine to put ones life at risk, let alone an innocent marshall who clearly in the video was having an Oh Sh*t moment. BASS should be setting the boat safety standards, certainly not publicizing this as a great skills job by a driver. It was and is simply pure LUCK that this event did not end tragically. http://www.bassmaster.com/video/scary-m … ough-waterLast edited by JSLAW on May 12th, 2013, 7:18 am, edited 1 time in total.
Totally agree. Ridiculous. Has nothing to do with being an Elite angler. Has to do with being a fool for being anywhere near that area in the first place. If Im that Marshall, I wouldnt have anything nice to say about Miller, or BASS for treating the incident like it was something “special” when it was nothing more than poor judgement on the part of the driver. I hope TVA or the Corp calls them out publicly on it.
I most definitely agree with the above. Total lack of thought on Millers part. BASS is way out of line too for saying it was “special.”
Clearly, shall we say,,,,,,, f.u.b.a.r.,,,,,,what a rookie move.
Thanks for posting JSLAW. That bothered me a lot also. BASS postpones the South Texas tourney a day due to high winds and “safety for competitors and followers”, then allows this to be highlighted. Oh “but its tournament fishing, moneys on the line, its their job” is BS on this one. He was VERY lucky that boat did not get part of that top cap submerged at such an angle to sink it in less than 5 seconds.I brought it to my sons attention, as he fishes college trail, and we had a long discussion about poor decisions, being responsible for others and respecting the water.Agreed, this does not help fishermens battles with restricting fishing waters by the TVA or USACOE or other authority………..96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
It was definately a reckless move on his part. Dumb … yes. Did he break any rules … no. BASS should have had something in place for this. The more publicity this gets the more fire power the people trying to shut down fishing on tail races will have. Needs to be kept on the low down not thrown all over the Internet.
Dumb is to kind of a word. Anyone who has ever spent much time fishing below dams and around locks knows there are things you can do and not do in strong currant. Going across current that strong side ways is stupid even without rocks. He put his marshal in extreme danger and should suffer some consequences. Im sure B.A.S.S. insurance carrier loved seeing that video…..
Those are some excellent comments. There will be more developments to follow from ths action.
Kinda a scary moment when I saw the boat hit the rock as well on the video and the marshal go flying sideways …………..not a good move , but it will get swept under the rug and Miller ask not to do that again. Which brings a story to mind regarding safety . A few moons ago BASS came to Old Hickory(some of you old-school BCB guys might have fished this event at the time) lake in TN , a pro-angler (running a Pro-Craft at this time) had a ditch dug a little deeper for him to get into a place called the Teal Hole . On the first day of the event he was able to get into the hole but by the time he was ready to leave he messed his boat up trying to get out and to borrow a boat the next day to fish . The next day of the event he somehow was able to get in this place but the worst part was getting out , his co-angler sustained injuries and had to be taken to the hospital due to injuries of the pro-angler trying to get out of this place and the pro-angler tore up another boat again . The bad part they said there wasnt enough insurance on the borrowed boat to be fished out of but BASS let him anyway , BASS took care of the co-angler at the hospital and this story was SWEPT UNDER THE RUG with BASS . Even though this was swept under the rug with BASS I am sure Millers will just get a slap on the wrist and…. Hey ,try not to put your marshal in a unsafe place anymore it causes too much exsposer (sp) . Of course the video doesnt help the cause that was posted on BASS of Millers wild ride .Last edited by FTDoo7 on May 12th, 2013, 3:03 pm, edited 1 time in total.
