Cougar VS Pantera

Ive had the pleasure of fishing from a Pantera on multiple occasions. I am more than satisfied with how the Pantera fishes. It seems to handle our local lakes and maneuvers on the TM very nicely. Id love to hear opinions from those that have fished from the various Basscat models comparing how they FISH and how they maneuver under TM power. Im 95% sure Im going to buy some version of a Pantera when I get more money saved, but Im trying to do some due diligence just in case

Ham66, I have an 04 Cougar FTD. that if you would like to fish out of I would be happy to take a fishing trip with you. This way you can do the compairison yourself and not have to take anyones word on it.

best fishing Pantera is the Pantera 4! Best fishing, most popular model to fish out of is a Puma FTD. Those are my opinions.

Thanks for the invite 03. I would love to take you up on it, but Im pretty sure I live too far away. I had failed to update my bio so IF you checked it, it looked like I was still living in Minden. PA does the P4 fish a lot differently than a P2? A P4 is a little wider and a little longer than a P2, but does that impact the way a TM moves the boat around?

Ham, That is what I had done. I have owned 2 cats, a Pantrea Classic and this Cougar, Both fish Great. the Pantera did seem a little more nimble, the Cougar is just like riding in a Luxury model where the Pantera is more like a very comfortable sports car.. As far as under TM power. I dont thing you could go wrong with either, You just have to remember if your fishing creeks that the Cougar is a 20 footer. Hope you enjoy whichever Cat you choose, You will not be disapointed.

My partner had a Pantera Classic, I had a Jaguar, I fished the Columbia River in Wa/Ore out of both. I much preferred the Jag for big water, but the Pantera was more nimble. When I was able to buy new I got a Pantera IV, which has been the absolute best of both worlds, handles great in big water and very nimble in the backwaters. I gave up a little speed, about 2-3 mph, if thats not a deal breaker you ought to at least consider the PIV. MikeLast edited by mike dominick on January 21st, 2011, 11:52 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I have zero interest for an 80 plus mph boat. I need a boat that runs 60 ish with efficiency and safety.

My Pantera IV will run 68-70 tournament loaded, I was running 70 loaded with gas and a partner in 100 degree weather last year in Az., if thats fast enough the PIV may be the boat for you. Mike, 2009 PIV ETEC 200HO

I would highly recommend looking at a P II (There is not a bad BC). I really like the layout of the II. Performance is very good with the 200 Opti and 24 Fury.

I have an 02 cougar that I love. It fishes like a 21 because of the way BCB puts the TM basin a foot forward. The 19s all fish bigger than the competition and run better as well. If youre comfortable in the 19s and they meet all tour needs than it a matter of deciding which layout you like and then the hardest part…..colors!
