Topic: What grade bolts Motor to Jackplate

I just installed a new Detwiler All-in One Jack Plate on my 2008 Cougar with the 250 Optimax Pro Xs. It calls for shorter replacement bolts and the BCB installed factory ones are stamped S30400 and the ones I found are F593C. I also found this doing research. Is a 304 bolt as strong as a Grade 5 bolt? No. While steel bolts are graded for strength, such as Grade 2, 5, and 8 – stainless steel bolts are not. There are places on the internet that sell 18-8 and 304 bolts as meeting steel Grade 5 specifications, but they do not and buyer should beware. That being said is this going to be any problem? I dont want to run it until I can confirm the bolt strength and it appears mine are a stronger grade if so will that cause any issue? I cant find any S30400 bolts around here? Thanks

Are the Grade 5 ok ? Are they too strong? Do you follow the Detwiler 70 Foot pound torque or is BCB a higher torque? I have seen up to 90 ft lbs in Mercury literature? Thanks

We have suggested more than the 70 pound torque. 90-95 in the past we have seen suggested by others here.

This is what I do for a living and can provide you with product standards on all stainless steel (18-8 and 316). I would go with a waxed A4 Stainless to prevent galling. Do you need a washer or nuts?
