My old 3 bank charger went out so i ordered a new minnkota 4 bank. Got it only to realize i would have to do some rearranging in the compartment to make it fit. i have 4 grp 31 batteries, pump for hyd. plate oil tank etc. So after looking i decided to just cut the ends off and put alligaotr clips on and use it that way. May not be as attractive when I got to sell it but I actually think is working out better for space and the weight of it hangin back there. My other theory was the charger may last longer not gettin beatup and weathered so bad. What yall think?
I have been using a minnkota 4 bank 15 amp charger that way for 2 years.I dont ever want a built in charger again. I have a brand new never installed noco on the floor of my storage unit still in the box.Just be sure to get clips thatll handle 15 amps or so. I crimped mine and shrink tubed the lines that are leaving the yellow connectors on the charger. If you dont do that the bending of the wires at times can pull things apart. Also I electricains taped the wires to the clips for the same reason. You can also zip tie the 4 lead wires together so it moves easily. Just be sure to leave enoug line of course to clip on.Would also number the wires near the clips so you know which one is the problem if you ever pull one loose from a clip. When you travel just put it in a soft sided cooler so you have handles and a place to keep your extension cords. BCB,Can you put alligator clips on the Lester for two separate banks (24 volts) or do you have to use the plug and plug it into the TM receptacle as shown on your website. Id rather use the clips if that is an option. Ive noticed the screws starting to wallow out on the brackets that hold my TM receptacle in place and see that getting worse if I were to have to insert the charger plug every time I go fishing. Can you add the clips? Thanks
