I decided to replace an old steering cable out of the necessity to steer. I took three pics of one nasty end of the cable. Its pretty corroded. Routing the new cable through the boat to the back was really easy. Also, my 95 PII has what I believe is called the tilt tube on the front of the motor. Its a tube that is mounted just four or five inches forward of the steering tube that runs within the main motor hinge point. I simply unbolted this tilt tube and this made the removal of the most forward steering cable a breeze. (Id be tuff to remove this cable without removing the tube or without removing the entire engine. Strangely, the other cable was pretty smooth. BCB said youd have to at least loosen the bolts on the motor to provide enough angle or room to get the rear cable free. As I didnt feel comfortable doing this, I just cut mine out, re-routed the new cable and had someone else handle the motor issue.
