Posted this over on BBC, but so far no info. I have an 09 200HO Etec with factory warranty till Feb 2015, I just blew the #6 piston/cylinder (about 180 hours or less). The dealership believes they located a fuel delivery issue, Evinrude is sending out a Service Powerhead, 1 injector for #6, and a water pressure valve. What exactly is a “service powerhead”, is it a new block, pistons and crankshaft and they use my injectors and electronics? Ive been thinking of repowering, but they want to charge me full retail plus 10 hours labor on the new motor and give me 5k for my HO with new powerhead. This is a dealership that sells and warranties/services all 3 brands. This seems like a bad deal for me or am I being unrealistic? thanks, Mike
Usually those are rebuilt, often by Wards friends in Little Rock at River City. They do great work and will stand behind their products faithfully. We would suggest you replace the fuel bulb with a Yamaha or other brand. BCB
I am confused. If you have warranty why are you paying anything? Maybe I see now? Warranty is coming thru but brp or dealership wants you to repower after work done? Oh hell no. New motor old boat is bad combo for any resale.I need to know-1) Is current warranty thru BRP or FPC? IF BRP this will be from BRP not Riverside Marine here in North Little Rock and likely would be new powerhead since BRP has no in house reman group with any wherewithall. If from FPC itll come from Riverside and will come with appropriate fuel bulb and will run better than what you had from BRP originally. If it comes from BRP have your mechanic call Riverside in North LR and get appropriate fuel bulb. I believe its the bulb from the F350 Yam but things change. Make sure it wont invalidate your warranty if you do that but its 50 bucks well spent…trust me. Also I would call Riverside and get their break in schedule. Yep. Break in. Ask Larry Nixon, ask any good BRP mechanic. With a reman you would also get that POS excuse of a lower unit(SLE- sucks lotsa energy) that they created in some sort of bizarre manic fit that I want nothing to do with as well.I have a Riverside block, riverside lower unit. Boat runs better than when it was new. Riverside does it all by hand so its right. Last edited by clownshoes on May 17th, 2012, 4:40 am, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
Its BRP warranty, boat was put in service Feb 2010, all thats coming from BRP is the powerhead, my L2 lower unit is fine. Im looking at repowering for my own peace of mind, the motor is great 99% of the time. I lost the EMM in 2010 in the middle of a 3 day state championship, in 2011 an injector went out on day one of a qualifier, 2012 blown motor one week before BASS Western Divisionals. These are the only problems the motor has ever had, but the timing of the issues has killed me in tournaments. Id like to trade in my PIV for a Cougar / Puma 250 powered rig, but most seem to start looking away when I mention the blue motor hanging on the back of mine.
Ward, I called Riverside and got the scoop on the Yamaha primer bulb, Ill get that on asap. They also gave me the recommended break in schedule for the new powerhead from BRP. Im still looking at the repower option though, Im going to take a hit now or later with the blue motor hanging on the back.
I assume mine will eventually crater as they all do. Riverside has some out there from them at 2000 hrs so Ill wait.C.O.D. Jr. III
I have an ETEC 200HO also and have not had any problems. Whats the deal with the Yamaha primer bulb?Should I look into switching bulbs?
The 200 HO is one of the best running engines on the P4, i think id run it !
I would not own an ho motor without bulb.C.O.D. Jr. III
