Broke my boat buckle

I was heading out this morning and I noticed the boat bounce when I went over a bump. I pulled over and the boat buckle was broke off the mount.I have noticed when I pull in and out of the driveway the license plate and one section of the trailer scrape no matter how slow or what angle you take and my driveway is not steep it just has a slight dip at the entrance. I ordered some L brackets that Im gonna try and mount to the trailer and different straps hopefully that will ride higher and wont drag going out and in. My driveway is paved so I cant do nothing about that,just hope the small section of trailer that scrapes can hold up.

Have you tried lowering the ball? If you have to go too low to tow safely I would get a lower ball hitch and change it out to a different once out of the driveway. Might help.

Yes I lowered the hitch as much as possible,it helped in how the trailer tows but not with the driveway,,thanks though for the thought.

No hills,just a slight dip across concrete for street drainage.Heck I even scraped going over speed bumps?

Have you at least tried to suspend the license plate via a hinge (or even w/ 2 zip ties in top corners) That may at least, save your plate for you

can you drop a board or boards in the depression at end of drive to prevent the dip than remove and stow untill you return home?Treat everyday like it might be the last

The plate is ok being its on a rubber hindge,I was worried about the frame scraping.I am going to move the strap attatchments to help that issue.My road is pretty narrow so its hard to cut the boat in the same line every time,so boards would be tough.I am going to see if anyone in my area sells maybe large steel plate sections I could place at the end of the drive and leave it there.Water should be able to flow underneath when it rains.

onebgfish,The only suggestion we can make is going to seems like one you already should be using, so dont think we are being redundant. The onlly way to approach a steep drive way os to angle the trailer onto the hill at start, and continue on that angle until the trailer starts up the incline, which pulls the back of the boat up and you gain clearance.Sorry to post the obvious. I just happen to replace one of mine just this past week. I was fishing the ABFN on Guntersville a week back and hit a tree root of all things as I backed into the camp site. It bent the buckle so bad that it would not move either way. I ordered a new replacement from BCB that night on the internet and they were here in less than a week; super fast service. I also found out that this same tree root broke my middle light bar; I am now looking for that replacement. I was a careless mistake on my part especially when I knew that my trailer was low and as I backed off the road it may hit something. Oh well, never too old to learn.
