My PII baby has no power!!!

Couple of weeks ago, I charged the batteries after a long winter and they were full with 3 green lights on the charger then I checked the power by the master switch and it worked just fine. I turned the master switch off. About a week later, I decided to check again and theres no power. I was puzzled about it but I went ahead and recharged the batteries then I saw the green lights on all 3 right after I plugged it so they are already full. I checked the circuit breaker panel at drivers side – no pop out then checked the breaker at the starting battery – no pop out. The batteries for trolling motor work fine but no power for dashbaord,up/down trim nor starting. I checked the kill switch and its on so whats wrong? Something I forgot???

Hard to say, though it sounds like the battery is discharging or not getting a full charge.

Possibly, though we dont really know if it is the battery, charger or just a gremlin discharging it like a stereo.

How old is the starter battery? Might be low on water. I check water levels each year. was low on all cells this year and they are only one year old.

if you have access to a 12v multi-meter i would check voltage at the battery and the go from there checking connections for proper voltage.

Bought the boat in Dec, 2009 and have not replaced the battery yet. How do I check the water? If need to add water, what do I do? I have no mechanic common sense!

2009BCPIIThe water in the batteries must be topped off with distilled water in each cell. You remove the battery top caps and check each cell, filling till you cover the plates (fins inside) with water. The battery is probably toast if you have not topped it off. For those non mechanically inclined, we definitely suggest AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries that dont require water replacement. They should last longer also, though when toasted they are kaput. Check the voltage on your graph or gauges after charging and allowing it to sit for 24 hours. Should have at least 12.4 volts. If not then 12.2 minimum and even then your battery is weak.

Adding water can be a little tricky. Some recommendations:1) Wipe off top of battery removing debris, grease, etc. before removing caps. You want to avoid knocking anything foreign into battery cells.2) Use distilled water only.3) Use a small funnel or water bottle with pop up top to get water in small holes. Not a huge gallon container like this guy does. You also need good light to see water level. I check my levels at least once a month. Sometimes you go months without the level changing then all the sudden it is down quite a bit.4) Always charge the starting battery as well as the trolling motor batteries. Dont depend on the motor to do it. Most boats come with a battery charger for the starting battery too these days. With good maintenance your batteries should provide years of use. Good luck. If you are uncomfortable doing the maintenance, Im sure it wont be hard to find someone mechanically inclined who likes to fish and an easy trade can be arranged.
