Hi all, A tricky question… Although straight forward….! I have a skeeter sx 180 with a 115hp Yamaha 4 stroke, dual console, single axle, which Im looking at selling to upgrade to a sabre with a 150hp opti dual console, dual axle…. Can anyone provide me with a comparison of the total towing weight of each? Thanks heaps in advance! Pat
Better ride, very stable fishing platform, choose your own colors, 60+ mph vs high 40s with Sabre. Solid ride bout 400lbs more on boat and 250lbs on trailer. get the best trailer Basscat makes you will not regret. You have one of the best motors ever made with the 115 4 stroke Yama. Unless you are towing with a Honda accord the weight should not be a problem. Double axle tows like a dream.golfen
Thanks for the reply, I have no doubts the basscat is a better boat… Can anyone give me figures on weight comparisons between the two…? Is the dual axle ok to tow with a 2wd… ? Thanks! Pat
With time to spare looking around the internet ( every time I find the end, they extend it! ) It looks like a Sabre FTD DC with a 150 Pro Xs and tandem axle trailer will probably be within about 300 pounds of what you now have. It looks like the Sabre weight is lighter than the Skeeter, but the dual axle trailer will weigh more, and the motor weighs in 15 pounds heavier. I have pulled 2 dual axles over the years a 91 Pantera II, and a 01 Pantera III w/200 opti with everything size wise from a 84 Bronco II V6, to a 2008 F250 diesel and have never had a problem with the few 2WD vehicles I have owned or been issued over the years. I just recommend a limited slip or locker rear axle for getting up those slippery ramps.
The Sabre FTD with a single axle tows easier than a dual axle. Posted weights are estimates and bear some inaccuracy. Thus we would base our decision on experiences of owners in similar rigs. We dont think there would be a significant difference between the two. Thank You for thinking about a Bass Cat.
Can anyone confirm the total weight of the rig I mentioned in the first post? Sabre, dual console, dual axle, 150 opti. I need it to be under 3000lb total or not too much more! Thanks Pat
You will be under 3,000 gross for some and just over for some. It will depend on batteries, fuel, tackle and etc.
What are you pulling with. Odds are someone on the board has pulled with a similar vehicle and similar load.

Thank You for thinking about a Bass Cat.I know there are positives for dual axle vs. single axle trailers but I just downsized and one of my main objectives was going back to a single axle trailer. Not sure if you have storage challenges but a single axle trailer is so much easier to handle on a level surface putting in and taking out of the garage. I have NO regrets going back to a single axle trailer. Also, when I had my first Sabre with single axle trailer I had no challenges towing it on a 1,800 mile round trip vacation. If you have to make 90° turns to store your boat a single axle trailer is a premium. Not saying its better but it does offer positives. Owning a BassCat is special and I can promise you will not regret fishing out of one. Good luck with your boating endeavors.
