I am thinking about getting a 798 and a 898. I already have a 597 mounted in the console. My plans were to mount the 8 on the bow so I can see the bigger screen and mount the 7 on the console to share it with the 5. Does this sound like a good idea, of do I have it all backwards ? Any and all thoughts and comments would be great.Thanks

Depends on how you fish. Dropshotter Id go two units front. Where I like to fish your rod tip is your depth finder so a mapper and a side imager help more when I am idling.C.O.D. Jr. III

Your backwards and we would go 858 DI on the front and 898 SI in dash. Ward is right on using the side imaging idling around.

I use a 788C on the front and a 798 Si in dash on the console. All works really great.

That is an adequate setup for most all anglers.

I guess I should add a new post, but I want to talk to someone who has a clue about these units. I have the 797 c2 si in console and a lowrance on front. I want away from the Lowrance and want my units to comunicate. If I mark something on console I want to see it on bow. The 797 is too small if I was standing on the front and have looked at the 900 series. BUT the larger side imaging seems more pratical at the console. The 1197 is within my price range but is it an overkill? I am SO LOST!! called Humminbird and the Lady was as lost as me.. She learned that the 998 does not come with a transducer while on the phone with me…

I have a 998 si at the console and an 898 si on the bow, i have one GPS antenna at the console. both are hooked with an Ethernet cable. if you have more than 2 units to be able to talk you need to get the Ethernet hub. but 2 units dont need the hub.my 2 units are configured to use the 1 gps antenna so if i wave point on one i can see it on the other. once the Ethernet is connected you have to enable it on the units, when this is done you will get a new tab on the units and can select which transducer to use, temp and gps antenna. very easy to set up. the screen views and map chip data are the only thing that are not shared.trpcollier:the 998c SI Combo CHO is the one that does not come with a transducer. this is where i got my units, best price i could find by far!!!http://moodeals.com/index…0e8794c1924ccdbc54edc002Last edited by socalpIII on May 14th, 2012, 10:08 pm, edited 2 times in total.
