Hey guys, am trying to install new teleflex cables. I have the old cables out and the new ones pulled through to the engine. I have the forward cable mounted in the engine. I am trying to do the install without renting a hoist and and buying the eyebolt for the engine. The aft cable is a bear. My PII has a manual jack plate. I bought 4″ 5/8 bolts and installed them in place of the factory engine mount bolts. I loosened the 2 right side nuts on the 2 engine mount bolts so the engine mount seperated from the jackplate about a half inch. I loosened the left side nuts on the 2 engine mount bolts so the mount seperated from the jack plate an inch and a half. I have a floor jack under the skag. The angle is still not enough for the teleflex cable to make it through with damage. I need for the left side of the engine to come back another 3 inches in order for the cable to pass cleanly through. So my question is, can the two right side bolts hold the engine at that angle and should i be putting much weight at all on the skag from the floor jag to assist the two bolts? Am going to rent the hoist and get the bolt tomorrow depending on advice here. Thank you. 2015 Caracal

That definitly would be a gamble. As far as vertical weight I wouldnt be afraid. BUT IF IT EVER MOVE SIDEWAYS IT WILL BREAK OR BEND!2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

you dont have to losen motor, just raise your jackplate all the way up.. with the motor end of steering cables in left hand make an s shape with cables using right hand pulling slack from hull, this will allow you to push end through tilt tube, do on a time .. front cable first, after you have it through tube, push cable back in hull. i have done this with several boats

Let me give that a shot Scubaman. I appreciate the idea. I have been running around getting quotes for a hoist-$45 and an eyebolt-$20. Thanks again.2015 Caracal

What scuba suggested, worked for me as well. I didnt even have to touch my jackplate or anything (mine is a 99 sabre, not sure if that makes a difference). Just make sure your cables arent connected to the steering wheel, and tape a rope to the rack because you will pull it back into the rigging area when you pull slack out.
