Kevin and Kerry have stored all salvageable items in two trailers provided. Ward and Doug assisted them along with Ken and Tammy Cook who drove in, Kevin and Kenny Dillon and more from our Bass Cat family. The big news of the day is that prized gun safe was found in Lake Conway, from Kevins fathers home. Lots of items were saved in K1 and K2s home and they feel they lost about half their personal belongings from a variety of issues. The tightness of our group has shown itself this week with outpouring of willingness to help the Shorts. There have been dozens of contacts with us all on how do we help? We are working on that and we also understand most want tis to help locally there. Kevin and Kerry are fine, they have no further financial needs at this time. Arkansas Farm Bureau stepped up and has already resolved most everything in that neighborhood directly. They really dont feel they need any further assistance, though they will let us know if they do.Obviously the needs there are not all met and the willingness of our BCB family to assist still rings true. We are working on a local Faulkner County charity or church where the concerns of people actually receiving the benefits will be met and not be mired in beauracracy. We will keep you up to date on any developments there once we find a credible location for donations. Thank You all! Rick There are dozens of web sites with images of the storm damage and The Little Rock television stations probably best covered it. Thanks for the update, continued prayers.
Picture total destruction like a carpet bombed neighborhood on a lake. People wandering everywhere. Blackhawks overhead. Now walk to the edge of the lake and look down- way down the slope…..past all the snapped lumber and boards and debris…Picture 3 rednecks recently jumped out of a perfectly normal bassboat in normal clothing with goggles on down in a dang tree like theyre grappling a catfish none of them can get hold of.(ken cook, steve Howard, David short). Seems that a side imager wont find a 5 x 3 safe but ken cook with a lure retriever punching mud works can? Lol!!Picture another 2 rednecks- one on a backhoe(Dillon) 15 up a dirt embankment littered with debris and another redneck helping him with a cable(Doug) to the three grappling rednecks in the water…..Imagine about 15 more rednecks all standing and watching(me, others). Wishing I had some beer, some popcorn, a seat, and a first aid kit for the dude that gets killed when the cable snaps…Dillon and the team slowly but surely surgically and gently dredged up the titanic, kev popped it open, and the entire crowd witnessed the best catch on lake conway ever….a genuine moment of success when everything around spoke of failure, death, loss, and uncertainty. It showed me that our ability to persevere isnt something that can be accurately estimated ever. Ever.Oh and it also reminded me that 6 rednecks, 40 of cable, some straps, and a backhoe can do pretty much anything. LMAO!Last edited by clownshoes on April 30th, 2014, 2:45 am, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
BCB,i will stay tuned for an addy to send a donation. Matt
Thanks for the update, Rick.
Appreciate the updates. Glad the Shorts are making progress.
Great story W.
It is great that the Shorts are doing so well amidst the tragedy. Kudos to all who were able to get up there, or down there to help out. Its so nice to see communities come together in times of need. Ive seen it multiple times here during hurricanes and floods and it is always impressive. Some people/communities talk about doing and some just get it done. Sounds like you guys are part of the later!! Praying that all continue to recover swiftly!Chris CoupelPaulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
I enjoyed working yesterday at Mayflower, trying to assist friends, really, it adds perspective in that I have no real problems. There are no immediate threats to my place to rest, bathe, cook, or feel secure. My family is healthy, Im not destitute, or without life sustaining requirements. People hit by the tornado are in a desperate place, scared, uncertain, hurt, dependent on others, and literally uprooted without much if anything of their past life or home, nothing. We have donated listed items along with a friend, and taken to Homeland Security controlled site near the impact zone. We will do more if able to assist our friends, and anyone that needs it. We are fortunate, we have, therefor we should give. What else can one do but think it could be us next time who needs support of friends and community.btw, It was more like a 60 embankment, and 100 of cable. the # of rednecks was pretty close, not counting the women and children !
Basketman – Having to deal with your own emergencies not long ago and now you are out there helping others is impressive. A positive testament to you and many others as important members of the BCB family. Its one of the reasons I frequently share your site on FB. I have a lot of friends in the garden/farm/fruit tree community I hope see your products and place an order. If you get any new orders from Washington County in very up state NY, youll know where one possible source of info came from. I and many others I m sure share your site and others (fishing related or otherwise) with friends to help out a family member. Every little bit helps in my opinion.
