I am looking at purchasing a Cougar Advantage Elite and was looking for the pros and cons of this boat.Last edited by wardt61 on April 22nd, 2010, 7:16 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I can see only one disadvantage if thats what you want to call it. There are no compartments in the rear behind the cockpit and passenger seat. Thats all! You will have all the storage you need up front. This boat is a little lighter and in some instances faster than the Cougar FTD, PUMA and the PUMA FTD……. Good luck!Forgot this…….. The drivers cockpit will be smaller. The larger graphs will not fit flush mounted. They will have to be ram mounted.GlynnLast edited by NELACAT on April 22nd, 2010, 6:48 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Pros = Lighter, runs great, old FTD deck, easier to maneuver around console, under seat storage, etc,,,,Cons = No net holder, a bit rougher in big water(i.e. lighter bow, both fuel cells in rear ), no rear storage, size restrictions for electronics in dash, etc,,,,Still the best boat ive run for the money.
I went through this delima 2 years ago when I ordered mine. I went with the advantage. My decision was based on performance, all the data I could find said that the advantage out performed the FTD and PUMA. I am totally satisfied with my performance 82 mph (gps) with 2 tournament fisherman and gear, 3.2 mpg @ 6000 and 4.5 mpg @ 5200 (70 mph)! Yes, the rear storage is a negative, but I have never come close to using all the forward storage on mine. As for the little “bells and whistles”, the FTD has more, you can look at the option pages on the BCB wesite to see what the diferences are. Some of these FTD standards I just did not need and you can allways add the options you want to the advantage. The FTD and PUMA are also more expensive which was a factor for me as well.Either way, you cant go wrong!
Keep in mind “rougher ride” is in comparison to other cats. It will still outride other boats.
These guys are all 100% Correct. The rear deck storage cannot be a real minus because a Cougar Advantage has so many pluses that Out Weigh ALL of the negatives. Lifetime warranty transferable, insane Gel Coat,ALL Glass, Trailer, rough water ride, handling,SPEED, oh, and the famous BCB customer service. If a guy loses room for his tackle, then he or she needs to literally look at what they need and what they want to carry. The Advantage probably has a limited life span for availability, thats just what I heard, so order her Soon….BW
I went from the biggest/baddest Skeeter they build to a Cougar Advantage Elite. I carry more gear than anyone I know. I CAN”T fill it up. I actually leave an entire box empty and my partners have never said one negative. The main box up front will hold anything you wasnt to carry. The two boxes behind that I use one for life jackets, clothes, helmets, maps and that includes my partners as well. The other box is solely used for who ever is riding with me. Ive had one guy put 12-15 Planos and a bunch of other stuff and he loved it. He still didnt fill it up. I use my under seat storage for tools, vhf radio, extinguisher under driver seat. The other has spare prop cull-m-rite system and weigh bag. I hardly ever use the starboard rod box. I have actually noticed my boat is much more organized than before. I have no idea where this “rough ride” is . I drive up to 250 miles a day in my boat making runs to Venice and all of the Federation guys that ride have only had positive words. And especially when we get to the gas pumps in Venice and the tender says 24-28 gallons they really freak out.I love the simplicity of the entire boat. If something breaks or happens , it is set up to where you should be able to fix/figure it out w/o needing a rocket scientist. The performance of the boat is awesome. I run a 27 Fury w/a 250 Pro XS. I carry a ton of weight and I consistently stay at 78 w/ a true FULL LOAD (gas.livewells, partnerice, tackle)You will not be dissappointed,if you are torn between the 225 or 250 save yourself from grief and get the 250. If not the whole time youll say “I sure wish I had that 250”, or “I wonder how this boat would run w/a 250″I have hit over 80 in my boat w/2 people but a little current helped the cause. I consistently stay at 80 by myself.I also cant justify the price of bells and whistles when the Advantage has everything you need, including the Security system, and multiple pump livewells.Ill go on a limb and tell you to “Enjoy your new Cougar Advantage” its friggin awesome!
I have considered this being my next model, but why dont the front boxes have gas struts?
DB was not implying the ride was rougher, though not as smooth as a Puma FTD is more like it.
Im sure that (struts) can be added for about $30
