Minn Kota Maxxum 101 Steering Cable Repair

My steering cables popped out at Lake Ouachita two days ago. It had worked fine all year and dropped it in the water on the 6th day of trip and nothing. I had thought just before that it seemed the foot was loose but didnt think much of it until I lost my sterring. Anyway, I called my local BCB dealer, which is also an authorized MK service center, and am told it will be three weeks before they can get me in to look at it. Anyone have any advice on repairing those cables? My buddys MG did the same thing earlier this year and it was a pretty easy fix for him. I am hoping it is the same for me.
