I bought a 16 Skiff Cat a year or so ago. It was the Houston boat show boat. It came with a 50 horse ETEC on it and jack plate. The motor has a 19p stainless prop. It is nearly impossible to get on plane with 2 guys and is impossible with 3. An aluminum prop came with it, I think it is a 17p. Are there any Skiff cat guys out there that can help with what pitch I should use? The other deal is with no tach, its kind of hard to tell what its turning. Milton
Looking at the specs its only rated for 435lbs. Three normal size people are way over that. With a 50hp and a jackplate it should plane with 2 persons fairly easily.Have you experimented with jackplate height?
If youre sure the engine is making full power then its probably the prop. Im thinking a 19p SS is more suited to a 75 than a 50. Be interesting to hear what others think.
I have no experience with that hull at all and I realize that is probably a biggie but I did have 50HP Merc on a 1648 Lowe. I ended up swappin props around to find what worked best for my combo & ended up with 15P SS. It would run about 40mph top end depending on load & conditions. Hole shot was always pretty good for what it was. When I was alone it was fun to drive.Dan
Not in my experience, but I am sure there are a lot of variables that come in to play, brand, cupping, etc.Dansteeler34 wrote:Probably the same weight. I think a stainless 15 will be a out the same as a 17 aluminum. Thanks
