Tough spots to clean…

Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. I am lucky enough to get to fish Caddo Lake mostly and one day last week I got out for a little late afternoon fishing. Unfortunately a storm blew up and ran me off causing me to load the boat without wiping it down. I washed the boat this afternoon and there are a couple of spots that are really hard to get clean. I am looking for any suggestions for these hard to clean spots. I am thinking of using either the Magic Eraser or using Goof Off to clean these spots but I just want to make sure I dont cause any damage to the gelcoat. Will either of these cause any damage and if so does anyone have any other suggestions? (Yes I do know that “elbow grease” is going to be involved) Thanks in advance, Tony D2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS

Thanks BCB. RXFISH—the spots are almost like tree sap but it is something in the water. Its a real sticky dark yellow substance. When I use soap and water it only smears. Caddo is full of cypress trees and I wonder if its residue from the trees but it is in the water as these spots arent coming directly from the trees.2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS

This is something Ive had success with over the years. For heavey oil grease or tar I use a light oil to lift the heavey oil product off. Then I use soap and water to remove the light oil residue. “Protein removes protein” is an old cleaner saying that I find works. The other cleaner I have handy is the Magic Eraser then soap and water to remove its residue. Good luckPractice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO

Have you tried a cleaner wax? That normally has worked well for me. You could try a clay bar but use lightly and well lubed(I use this a lot for vehicles, never had to use for a boat). If that doesnt work I would try a very mild polish. Shoot me a pm with your address and I well send you a little polish that I use for smudges. Ive got a bottle that I will never completely use.BTW, what color gel?

That is the sap inside of a cypress ball. Fight it all the time here. When it dries its like yellow glue / tar. Buy a bottle of this:http://fastwax.net/Spray a dab on the spot, let it sit a minute, and it wipes off with your finger. I use it to get anything off my boat. It is a wax but I just use it for the cleaner. If you see little yellow spots in your carpet that is where they came from too and will eventually where off. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys. Cotton—I am going to try the magic eraser but I am intrigued by this wax. If you are only using it for cleaning what are you using for waxing? And have you used the Fastwax for a wax job? Thx2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS

Follow up to using Magic Eraser….works great! Cleaned everything off with minimal elbow grease. Wiped it all down and then added a quick waxing.2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
