Hey Guys,ALL OF YOU need to read this story by Don Barone and then follow his advice. Make an appointment with your doctor, give a little bit of blood and have your PSA level checked. THANK YOU!!http://www.bassmaster.com/blog/comes-cancer
I have been a low 2s for years on my PSA. This past March I jumped up to 5.9. Long story short, I had prostate cancer. I have had surgery done this summer and doing better each day.Ron
Mine is checked twice a year, along with full lipids profile, A1C(long term blood sugar), liver, etc,,,,,,,,,plus now a full heart exam since two stents last year. Dayum,,,alot of things to go wrong with age, but i did buy a bike, and riding some, golfing, etc,,,,,,,Also pushing my boat off sandbars provides exercise ! btw, db, we also love you man !Last edited by dbasketman on October 6th, 2011, 7:29 pm, edited 1 time in total.
HAD MINE CHECKED 2 MONTHS AGO AFTER A FRIEND WAS TOLD HE HAD PROSTATECANCER(SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME) EVERYTHING OK ON MY END.GUYS WE ALSO NEED TO HAVE OUR COLONS CHECKED ALSO……
some good advice on this post….BPH is treatable and really only a quality of life kind of disease…have your PSA checked every year…any rise of 1 point or more in one year is something a Urologist will want to take a closer look at.
PSA every 2 years starting at age 35; every year after age 40.Screening colonoscopy at age 50 UNLESS you have a first degree relative diagnosed with colon cancer or adenomatous polyposis. I dont know of anyone that wants this done, but it is a necessity if you want to live to retirement age. If adenomatous polyposis diagnosed, you need to have your first colonoscopy 10 years of age BEFORE it was diagnosed in a first degree relative. By the way, the adenomatous polyposis can be really bad–I have seen colonoscopies done on teenagers due their first degree relative being diagnosed in their late twenties.
I went through a scare last year….My PSA level kept climbing and the DRs saw some shadowing on an Ultrasound…..They tried treating for an infection and my PSA level kept climbing…Not real high but it went from a 1.5 to over a 4 in a matter of months…They ended up finally doing a biopsy and everything came back clean…My PSA level has since started to drop back down…I did alot of research while going through all of this and found out some things on PSA numbers….What you are looking for is “Trends”…I talked to guys that had Prostate Cancer with PSA levels as low as 1.5 and guys that were clean with PSA levels over 10…With no infections..So dont get too wrapped up in the Number….My dad had Prostate cancer with a level at 4…..The ticket is to get your initial test and watch the trends from there…..Prostate cancer is a very slow growing cancer (in most cases) and with the Robotic surgeries they have nowadays it is very treatable in most cases….Alot of the side effects have been lessened also…..
I am good for another year
My PSA spiked to 20+ this last time. Biopsey showed cancer evident and set for surgery on the 11th. This was my 3rd biopsey in the past 4 years with the previous 2 being negative. Going with the DaVinci proceedure as ive heard a lot of positive feedback on it. Looks like im missing out on the Federation tournament again for the 2nd straight year. Guys, dont ignore the symptoms!!
