I about to change my pull cord for the 2nd time in 3 months is this typical of motor guides? I have owned mk before usually had to replace them every couple of years. I looked to see if something was sharp that is would be rubbing on, anyone have a suggestion?

That is too frequent, usually about once every couple of years on an average user. They make a hard cable for that also if you are interested. It is an aftermarket part. BCB

A permanent (almost) fix is to use plastic coated clothes line wire. It sure beats almost falling in the lake when the darn thing breaks again.

Another solution— Go to the hardware store and buy about 2 feet of 1/4″ ID clear plastic tubing. Any good store carries it. Take the handle off the rope, slide the tubing down the cord, through the rope guide on the bracket and up against the metal pins. Secure the tubing at the top with a couple of small zip ties on the rope just above the tube. Re-attach the handle and you are done. This has worked great for me—no problems with rope breaking. I do this on my boats as soon as I get them home. Honestly though, MG could send them from the factory with a better cable, and this fix would not be needed. Mike Whitten/Germantown, TN
