Today half way into my tournament, I snapped the trolling motor cable at the foot control. Is this an easy repair for somebody moderately mechanical? Where can I get a replacement cable? Its for a Digital Tour 82 lb thrust. Any feedback would be most appreciated.

There are 2 cables one long and one short. I was in the same boat and called Jones Trolling Motor to get the cables I needed and some info on how to do the install, etc.

The reason the cables snap at the foot pedal is they have gotten off the pulley. Opposing pressure on the trolling motor head allows the cables to flex at the foot pedal and they jump off pulley. This is usually grass or some other obstacle. Yes, just turning it with grass against the head will let slack develop in the cable and if you turn back fast it can jump off pulley and it runs between the pulley and frame, also cutting the stainless bolt in some cases.

Just did mine a few weeks ago. Here’s some advice that will make this relatively easy:
#1 Unscrew your foot pedal and straighten black housing that holds all of the cables out to where it is straight and no curves in it from foot pedal to motor head.
#2 Take a picture of how the cables wrap around the pulleys so that you don’t forget how they go back together. Take pictures of foot pedal and trolling motor head once you remove cover.
#3 BE SURE TO TIE SOME braided fishing line to your cable that you are pulling out of that black housing because you will want to use it to pull the new cable back though. (you will thank me for this…lol)
#4 Once it is all back together you will most likely have to adjust the tension of cables. You do this by loosening nut(s) at front of foot pedal.

I bet there are some youtube videos out there that will help. Irregardless, it is fairly easy to do. Just make sure you do #1 and #3 because they will save you a ton of headache. Good luck!

An upgrade available is a stainless steel pulley to replace the plastic one. And an other tx stopper is a broken deploy rope. Upgrade with vinyl coated stainless cable and never worry again

I’ve broke 2 in the last few years and both had the SS pulleys. They are not hard to change just sucks when it happens in a tx

Just give us a call, 870 773 3474. We’ll need the number off the bottom of the footpedal to get the correct length. Also, if you don’t already have the stainless pulleys, we’ll suggest you get those as well.

I’m sure John would also suggest it, but you should consider just replacing both cables while you’re at it.

Call jones. You need to pull the pedal and get the serial # of your motor, he will hook you up
