Hey guys the wife and I are heading to the “Rock” for a last minute get away next week. Will probably go out of the Ridgedale area. I know very little about the lake. Wondering if there are any tips for locations, depths, lure choices you guys might have. Or are there any reputable guides that anyone would recommend, any that own Cats ??
Thanks in advance, Bill
Bill,
Lake is pretty tough right now. The area you are talking about is pretty clear. It will be hit or miss. Last weekend I was out in the rain on it, got several nice ones every time it was raining. Then went back down during the following week and got into nothing. The bass are chasing some shad, and if you get lucky and get into some blowing up it could be some fun. I have thrown everything from ned rigs, thru squarebills, jigs, etc. Most of the fish I have caught have been right on the banks. And with the clear water they are spooky. But you can get a big bag especially if the feed is on. Good Luck to you.

Steve,
Thanks for the response. I have been following a couple of local guide reports on Youtube, and they verified what you said about the bite being tough. They did mention when the shad migration moves back in the coves the bite should improve. From your response it sounds like we are located in the clearest portion of the lake, probably not a good thing for neophytes to clear water fishing !!??!! Am not opposed to burning some gas either by boat or towing to a different location. And also will probably not have much for productive baits for clear water fishing. Do you recommend a local tackle shop ??
Thanks again Steve !
Extreme Outdoors Branson West is
the best bait store IMO. Plus you’ll be
fairly close to Aunts Creek boat ramp
when you leave there. I would put in
at Aunts Creek and go up the river
and just check every cut for shad.
End of turns and docks early with a top water (Plopper fame). Every bluff end is a good start and hit those creeks turns
Good advice on the Shad and congregation as they feed on Shad now heavy going into winter.
Every piece of wood has a fish on it when there’s a flat.
Backs of the creek and anything with a defined channel.
Pretty simple stuff in the mid fall patterns.
I have not been at that end of the lake in a while. As Basscat stated most of the time I am either starting in Aunt’s Creek or Mill Creek. It all depends on how much gas you want to burn. I have had better luck around the Kimberling City Area lately, but again it’s hit or miss. Might want to check out Pete Winner’s fishing reports. He is spot on and a good guy. One of the few I know that when he says he is on the water for over 200 days, well he is. You also might want to check and see if the fish are going to pea gravel by bluff ends/flats. I found that pattern on Stockton yesterday, and I am going back up tomorrow. One of the joys of living down here…..besides going to the plant and looking at the new jag……now to hit the lotto.

Thanks very much for the great info. Even if do not catch a fish, is always great to be out on the water. Speaking of the Jag I want to do some prop testing down there as well on my Jag, and put some Stabile in before I put the Kitty to bed for the Iowa winter. Still trying to break 80. Will try to post some photos if I have success, although I have yet to figure out how to do that on the new forum !!??!!
Thanks again guys !!! Bill
