There’s no center and no tie to the steering rods like your car. For example, just sit and turn the wheel all the way to one side, and keep turning it against pressure. There now, the wheel spun and you just tensioned the steering itself.

If coming from cable steering, its not a weird question. As BCB stated, there is no hard connection. With Hyd steering, its normal for your steering wheel to be in a new position after driving.
