I’m running a Merc 4/s 250 with 24P Fury 4. I switched to the fury 4 from a 23 Fury 3 a few months back. Over the weekend and under a full load (gas tanks full, 2 people, livewells full) I wasn’t able to get on plane without raising hydraulic plate up about all the way then lowering after cresting over. I’m trying to figure out if the prop pitch is causing me an issue or if it’s the engine or just too much load.
I had the engine checked by mechanic about a month ago and no issues found. Once I get on plane, no problems on top end, it’s just the hole shot. Would 4 blade prop pitch being 24 instead of 23 or so cause that much difference?
What it sounds like to me is that your prop is not spinning up with enough rpm in order to get the boat out of the hole and up on the pad. Look up o ken smith fishing videos on the Lynx on you tube. He has Phil Allison on it, and Phil explains what I just stated above. You have to have some slippage in order to get the boat moving. Too much grip and the boat will bog until it is moving quick enough to generate rpms. You should also talk to a good propeller pro regarding this as well. I had my prop worked on by Ronnie Gilbert, and he knows his stuff. Remember you went up in your prop pitch when you went from a 3 blade to a 4. That is going to have a very large effect. Good luck with everything.
You should have stayed with the 23 pitch on the Fury 4.
When going from a Fury to a Trophy or Bravo you go up a pitch.
The Fury 3 and 4 or both very stiff and require the same pitch when swapping props.
On the 23 Futy 3 you could have Ronnie Gilbert add 3ea 5/16 holes for additional venting. This gets the RPM’s up for quicker hole shot.

I wanted the Fury 4 23 but was unable to locate one. I believe the issue is prop related though, makes sense. I think I’ll just switch back to the 23P 3 blade until I can locate a 23P 4 blade or have my reworked.
Surge contact Ronnie Gilbert and give him all the information that you have shared here before you go and drop some more coin on another prop. He is gifted when it comes to getting it right, and he stands behind his work. The 25p fury that I have on my boat I was having issues with (hole shot), and I previously had a 2014 Cougar, same motor, etc . but with no poles and a 26 p fury on it. That boat screamed out of the hole. Long story short, he worked on the leading edge of this prop sent it back to me and told me to try it, and if I was not happy to send it back to him and he would continue to work on it until I was satisfied. No extra costs. You might also attempt to contact Phil Allison, he is currently running a Lynx as well and he knows quite a bit too. Good luck.
I’ll do that. I’ll let you guys know how it pans out. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Ronnie.
I have a 2020 Lynx double console. I was having trouble like you are with a heavy load when the water was warm last summer. The 23 4 took care of that. I lost some top end speed but loaded I can run 69-70 mph. I was looking for a 24 but couldn’t find one. I happy with the 23
Does it just cavitate and chug? My 2021 eyra would not get on plane with 3-4 open pvs plugs on a bravo 26xs fully loaded like your rig. I usually run the prop with all closed but 2 now. Its amazing how a true full load/ with livewell full impacts these boats.
No it actually doesn’t cavitate and I think that may be part of the problem. It just plows forward and the rpms never take off. I can make it cavitate with the jack plate raised up very high, and then it will take off an crest over. Makes sense my pitch is too high and prop is gripping too much.
