I ordered a New 2022 Cougar with the New Yamaha 250 Sho on it day after the owner meeting. Was told 9 to 12 months wait. Is this True.
Just Wondering cause i have a buyer for my current boat and was trying to figure out when to tell him he could have it
Right now we have no big Yamaha engines in stock. We do know when they show up it will be like a flood and we will have too many Yamaha engines, once they get their 100% OEM’s stocked and meet demand.
Today we have no projection from Yamaha and 8-12 months is the honest reasonable assessment. Once we are in receipt, we then have to slip your order into the schedule, which is out a few months. We can’t instantly readjust product needs in this climate as we are shuffling parts orders daily trying to keep product flowing.

So you don’t start the boat build till you have the motor. Am I understanding that correct?
Yes, and we have one original 20” Yamaha 250 SHO in stock at this time. That’s is the present model, not the new one. As we receive Yamaha engines the production dates range back to 2018. As we received a 300 XCA this week that was produced a few years ago.
Swap to a Mercury and get it much quicker.
Hi SilverCougar, I have been running the Mercury 250 pro XS and it is a beast. If you need a test drive I am down at Lake Ozarks. i would encourage you to test drive the Mercury. Joe Riley
I have a 2020 Yamaha sho flashed on my current 2009 puma fully loaded pole poles 112 ultrex two 12 inch graph on front Lovewell’s full 3/4 gas I am running 85 all day long with a gorilla hull
ain’t found a mercury that can run with me
Yep that’s moving! I am running on my 21 Cougar top in about 81. Comparable with your boat loads. A Merc 300 should compete with that. Not sure about the pricing but might be comparable, just a thought. good luck with your purchase. Joe Riley
Basscat if I changed to a 300R mercury would it be faster and how much faster in getting it into production. I know you can only give a estimate.
Also speed and performance wise the 300R mercury compared to the new Yamaha SHO 250 with Nizzpro flash on a 2022 cougar with the regular hull not the 203
The 300R is a long wait, though the factory does keep that product flowing through. That would give you warranty, where flashing won’t. Time wise we don’t know when we receive the new Yamaha engines. We received a brand new Yamaha 300 last week for Yar-Craft that was tagged with an early 2018 date the engine was built. They (Yamaha) are sending what they have and what they can gather. Which is how we have one original cowling 250 SHO.
Performance we won’t get into and usually don’t especially with the flashed engines as those technically violate EPA requirements of emissions.

…because it is flashed and others are running are stock 250s. Y250 to M250 would is a real comparison.
Basscat can I get my dealer to request which ever comes in first a mercury 300R or new Yamaha Sho?
Himmelrr I was meaning how the mercury 300r in performance would compare to the Yamaha 250 Sho flashed since the 300r is Mercury’s version of the Yamaha 250 Sho flashed
the nizzpro flashed version of the 250 sho is 332 HP
the mercury 300R is supposed to be around 330 HP
i just wanted basscats opinion on how they would compare
They will not schedule the boat for production unless the engine is firmly selected. Then it will fall inline for production based on program and dealership status position.
They have engines ordered out 18 months on Mercury and none are for particular boat orders. They simply forecast engines well into the future and adjust at the 6 month time line. They will not get in an engine specifically for your boat, and build the product holding engines. It’s more of a alignment to allocations on engines, and engines like 300R motors end up with boats waiting on their release.
The best bet is order the 300R. Then have your dealerships sales representative informed and should engines show up before your boat is scheduled. When Yamaha engines do show up they show up in bulk and often too many. This should be well noted and you should be able to adjust if the boat has not been inside the 30 day schedule and locked from changes in production.
If they show up, then you adjust, if not you get a 300R.
Hi, anyone out there running a 300XS on a newer model Cougar of Puma? Any performance figures would be helpful to silvercougar thanks in advance. Joe Riley
