What does the placard at the tongue of the trailer say? I’d run that recommendation  and depending on how the tires are wearing adjust psi up or down slightly. With a tandem axle you shouldn’t need to run max psi as it’ll cause the trailer to not ride as smooth and bounce more, also keep in mind air psi varies approximately 1psi per 10 degrees ambient temp. So if you set them at max in the morning when air is 30* lower than during the day, they’re going to be 3 psi too high in the afternoon.

For example my Sabre on a single axle trailer says to set tires to 40psi, their actual max psi is 50 as they’re true trailer tires and at that rating they’ll support 1760lbs each or 3520lbs total. A dual axle is 1570lbs each or 6280lbs total at max psi which I doubt your rig weighs. If your max is 44 then you have passenger tires though can still look at the sidewall for the load specs.

On trips with the C130 I would have to let tire pressures remain high in Hawaii due to the fact that we were off to Alaska and the temperature difference was around 100 f …. that tends to change things.

The biggest thing is to check the tire pressures regularly and keep them equal . This helps keep the trailer inline while towing.

You would be surprised by how much abuse a good tire can and does take.
