Good morning we have a 2000 Jaguar with the oil alarm going off 4 times and then turning off and then it goes off again several minutes later .

We figured out that it’s drawing oil from the reserve and the big tank is not filling the reserve to the safe level of shutting the alarm off .

We disconnected the oil lines and blew them out and a sludge like substance came out of the oils lines. Is there an additive I can add to the oil tank to break the existing oil down so that it goes through the oil lines like its supposed too or do I need to empty the big oil tank and clean it somehow .

We are using QuickSilver Synthetic blend 2 stroke oil the motor is a 2000 Optimax 225 .

The sludge is usually like stringy cheese and it comes from mixing oil types. No matter which oil you use always use the same oil or use most all of the present oil before switching. From experience with consumers oil tanks this happens when oil has been mixed half tank and it’s stored for some time.

We’ve always used the Quick Silver Synthetic blend 2 stroke oil should I not be topping off the large oil tank before we go out or should I let it run a little low in the tank before filling it up ?

We’ve been having the same problem with both Premium Plus and the DFI oil, we get ours on our Nation account direct from Mercury, keep it in a heated warehouse, and have been having jugs with lumpy clots in it when guys pour it in the tank. They’ve been having to clean the tank filter screen as well.

We should have mentioned what Mike spoke of, which is checking the oil tank pickup tube screen inside the tank. You just screw the ring loose and it comes out the other hole opposite the fill opening.

Thank for the input our screen & oil lines were clogged we have cleaned them both and the ol 2000 Jag is running like it just came off the showroom floor .
