The display is LED and we never have seen that sun fade, it is possible that it can happen. We haven’t seen it as they would have to be operating many hours usually to sun fade. The other option is internally a component that drives the LCD is failing, which controls the intensity. The intensity is manually set and driven by power le levels.
It’s a great unit and we would try to retain it as long as they are functioning.
