Hi All – new to Bass Cat and the forum. Just purchased a 2017 Sabre with an 2017 Evinrude E-Tec G2 HO 150. Engine mounted on first hole, manual jackplate inside/outside pieces flush at the top, running a 24 Raker HO prop, will run 60 mph at 5850 RPMs with 3/4 full tank of gas, full gear and empty wells. Water pressure is good. Not much steering torque at wide open throttle. Prop to pad is 3.5 inches. I have a Talon on drivers side and I’m a big boy at 275 pounds. The E-Tec has low water pick ups which is a plus. The hole shot is fantastic.

The question is…should I be expecting more from top end performance? Not a speed demon, but do want to get everything out of her I can. Looking for advice before I start tinkering. Thanks in advance.

Welcome and congratulations! I have a ‘16 Sabre FTD DC with a 150hp Mercury 4-stroke and have seen 66mph in cool weather with 1/4 tank and no poles for reference, but I’m about 100lbs lighter. Currently with it being so hot I’m probably down 2-3 mph and then given the fuel and driver weight difference along with the power pole I could see it being the other difference as I also have lighter/lower profile motor guide TM and not Minn Kota. I believe that engine will turn 6k rpm, so you’re not on the limiter and will have some room to go a little faster when it cools off. You could try raising the engine a 1/4” and see if that increases your speed any, hope that helps.

Thanks for the info Wheelman. Glad to be here! Your rig seems to be the same as mine, the FTD DC. What great boats the Sabre’s are. They are so fun to drive and fish from. I was leaning towards going up a 1/4 inch to 3.25. But hearing so many people say they had their engines lower on their boats gave me some pause on the decision. Yeah the Etec can turn up to 6K so I’d like to get closer to that at WOT. Appreciate the input.

You’re welcome, yes I like the Sabre for its nimbleness. The Raker is a large diameter 3-blade like the Tempest I believe and the Etec G2 is a torque monster, so I think it’ll still create plenty of lift and not sure if a couple hundred rpms would help it make any more power or not though don’t think it’ll hurt to try it and find out as you’ll have slightly less drag.
