Any help would be greatly appreciated. I recently purchased a 1996 basscat pantera 2 with a 1996 200 mariner magnum efi. The boat looked good and all seemed fine but once I put the boat in the water, the boat will max at around 1700 rpm full hrottle and not plane. I keep it at full throttle maxing out around 10 mph for 5 to 10 minutes and then it just kicks in and goes full throttle to 48 mph. I will stop to fish and when I fire up the engine to move to a new location, the motor will do the same thing again or it might work like normal. I replaced the spark plugs and wires, rebuilt the fuel pump and inspected the fuel pump filter but no change.

Sounds alot like what my brother’s Mariner did. — Also a 200 EFI. — Ended up being the computer . – Sent it ( The computer ) to Simon Motorsports in San Diego and they fixed it up for a couple hundred bucks. — Best course of action would be to take it to a Merc / Mariner mechanic and have it checked out. — That boat SHOULD push the 70 MPH mark when it’s running right. —

I would also have your injectors sent to be tested and cleaned.

Mine did this every time I put it in the water. After 5-10 minutes it was fine. Would run fine after that for the rest of the day. I did all the things you mentioned plus pulled off the vst, cleaned out the screen filter in the u shaped fuel line between vst and high pressure fuel pump, cleaned needle valve in vst, replaced in line filter and spin on filter, replaced all fuel lines from tank to pulse pump (3/8“ from tank to bulb, 5/16″ from bulb to pump), also eliminated quick connection for fuel line going into cowling. It’s run fine since.
