I recently acquired a 90 Sabre. It has some slight flex in the transom and has continuity when checked from tie downs ( I assume it has moisture ). My question is can the wood be removed without pulling the cap ( if possible) so as to use seacast to rebuild transom. Or what is best option if it is bad. Question for BCB who in baton rouge area can check out the transom to tell if it is safe? It is an old boat but has a 01 150 merc with very low hours, getting it from friend who I know and trust well, he does not know if transom it weak or not and will not accept money untill I know. Boat ran fine on test ride with no issues didnt notice until we were lowering motor on transom saver.ThanksBoo
The full length transom saver is reccommended by BCB. It does a better job of supporting the engine. D.
BCB Only suggests a full length transom saver. Not the newer shorties.
Here are a few pics of some damage from the lock and stow….feel free to make your decision. I would stick with the original transom saver design. http://basscatowners.yuku.com/reply/7122#reply-7122
Here is one that I would suggest, has a rubber in the bottom of the v so it wont smash or dent the lower unit. http://www.durasafe-usa.com/products/ma … s-TS1.html
The dealer should have hooked you up with a transom saver…thats cold hearted. When you buy one, be sure to get the kind that wont crack your clearance lights underneath the roller. One side of the curved “C” bracket that attaches to the roller should be shorter so as to not come in contact with the lights.
You can cut one of the sides shorter to miss the clearance light.
JUST THOUGHT I WOULD BE SURE ON THE ANSWER. WHEN I BOUGHT MY 2007 PANTARA IV AIRPORT MARINE RECOMENDED THE TRANSOM SAVER THAT FIT OVER THE 2 CYLANDERS ON TILT AND TRIM . BCB IS STATING THAT THEY RECOMMEND THE FULL LENGH TRANSOM SAVER
That has always been BCBs suggested method. Though several dealers have other preferences. We use the full length because it supports the transom. The ones on trim cylinders or Engine brackets only support the trim cylinders and not the transom. The full leverage and weight of the engine is still on the transom with the shorties. BCB
There may be flex, though the transoms had flex and do nit necessarily have issues. We dont know who in Baton Rouge is qualified. We really dont know a good (picky) glass shop around BR? Are there stress fractures in the splash well?
I have heard about Dear fiberglass on 4H club road, I have had no negetive info on them. But do not know how picky they really are.Dear Fiberglass(225) 664-940024005 La Highway 1032, Denham Springs, LA70726
Dears can check it, If you want to run by here I can check it for you but i dont fix any transoms, if you are going to have it fixed i would use larry tidwell in zachary or take it to toledo bend to toledo fiberglass. I know bubba dear well but I would go to tidwell for it .
BCB, yes there are a few stress cracks in the corners of the splash well. Doug, I may contact you I have heard great things about your work with gel coats, i have some fading. Thanks for all the coments, I look forward to bringing this boat back to life for the most part it is in really good shape, once I find out the status of the transom I willbegain the resurection.
