When charging your trolling motor batteries should you unplug the trolling motor or is it ok to leave it plugged in? Thanks
This is what I have on my 2010 Eyra. Works as advertised too. http://www.minnkotamotors…argers/mk220D_2bank.aspx
I have a stealth DC1 on my boat. I have no quality issues with it and it works good for my style of fishing.http://www.stealth1charging.com/My boss has the entire system on his Ranger and and can charge while towing.I think Gary put one on his new puma. The river rats “up here” like them. Fishing in the strong current of the Mississippi River is very demanding. Running to next spot helps put a charge back in your TM batteries. If you fish till sundown like I do it is the only way to go.You can install the DC1 to charge on-the-run.For the AC connect charge, ues the industral Lester style chargers when parked at home.
I have used a Stay N Charge for 4 years now. I love it. It keeps all 4 batteries topped off driving down the lake off my boat alternator and driving to and from the lake off my truck alternator. Very easy to install, and customer service you expect as a BCB owner. Ike had one on his Cat, and Mark Menendez runs it on his.http://www.stayncharge.com/our-products.html
what I have read on here, some folks use lester at home and on board when traveling, most using lester carry it with them.
I have the stealth DC and a remote charger works fine. You will not hurt the stealth charger if that is your question.
tswanson, do you leave the switch on your dc stealth charger on all the time? Do you leave it on when the on board charger is plugged in? Do you have leads going to the batteries from the charger or just to the starting battery?
I dont use the onboard Lester charger any longer. It is 1997 and 2 of the 3 legs are bad. I need to take it out.The stealth unit turns on when the big motor is running. It hooks to the starter battery, but the voltage producted from the engine alternator it turns on.When turned on, it monitors and charges trolling batteries.I do not unhook it when I charge the troller batteries with an AC charger. I forget it its there.I do unhook it when charging the starting battery so it does not turn on.
I would imagine most everyone keeps the trolling motor plugged in.
I never leave mine plugged in. I charge the batteries as soon as I return from fishing, once they are charged I unhook the charger. Then maybe I will top them off right before I head out for the next trip. I just dont like to take the chance of leaving it plugged in. A lightning strike nearby could fry your boats electronics. A malfunctioning charger could start a fire. I realize those are not real likely to happen, but I dont see any reason to take any chances.
Sorry let me clarify – I always charge my batteries when I get home -I wanna know if u should unplug the trolling motor from the front of your boat before before charging or does it matter

I always unplug my trolling motor before I plug the charger in. Ive been told thats a good idea. In reality, I dont know if it makes a difference or not.
We have always unplugged the trolling motor on all our boats before charging batteries.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
It probably matters, but I leave mine plugged in 90% of the time. Forget, in a hurry, and whatever other excuse I can come up with. No problems. One thing I try not do is leave the battery charger plugged up and going all the time.
I leave mine plugged in, but I do have a master switch installed in the bilge, to prevent parasitic drain on the batteries. If they can drain, then I would think there would be some amount of a charge going through the system. In the past, before I had the switch, I would unplug the tm socket.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
