sl;dgfkxaslk compartment lights! LOL! We think you still have a ground issue on the wiring. The Mercury switch is an actual Mercury switch like in your home thermostat for your heating and cooling. It simply moves to create a connection. We have seen a few issue since we started inserting them in the aluminum capsules. Though these have not quit working, while it is possible. It seems the heat of welding the capsules on may deteriorate the solder joints where the mercury contacts the wiring on some. That has been addressed at the lid company and we are also working on this internally as we all go green. Dont hesitate to take it to your dealership if you dont want to mess with it. BCB

IT is most likely a ground on the hinges. Run a short lead with a ground wire direct to the mercury switch and see if that helps for a test. BCB

Several of mine on my 06 Puma do that on a regular basis. I re did my grounds and it had the same problem. You can probably hit the switch pretty hard with your hand and it will come on. Dont really know why unless theres a problem with the switch and how its attached behind the foam.

The switches are moving mercury contacts. Thus it must be a ground since there are no moving parts except the mercury.

Just thinking about it I would NOT do it. I would be finding the fix to what I already had in place! Holes will need to be drilled in every compartment. Buttons installed. Wires would then have to be rerouted. Padding from the underside of the compartment lids would have to be removed in order to remove the wires/mercury switches. Once removed the padding would have to be reinstalled. I can see a complete days worth of work.

The issue is usually the grounds on the lids and retensioning the ground wires is simplest. We really prefer the mercury switches to the button type as the switches are less moving parts. Though the grounds in the lids might have been better the way they were years ago. The grounds in the lid are usually the connection to the hinge and running the ground to the wire often tells you if that is the situation.

It is a mercury switch in error or a touch switch activating in one of the compartments. Peek inside them when closed slightly to see which one is not off.

yea,the switches are junk and will need to be replaced with a upgraded switch.

Usually just a loose ground wire. check that first, switches are pretty reliable.

The mercury switches ground back to the lid-check for a good connection between the wire and the aluminum lid, making sure no foam has come between them. Also, make sure all grounds on your terminal block in the back battery compartment are tight. BCB Admin

You have an 08 PII correct? If so there should be no mercury switches on your boat they are all push type switches.
