Mojorig, My experience applies to a 24 volt charger. I spoke with a fellow at Lester(cant recall his name right now). He gave me a detailed primer on the charger. Anyway he told me to plug the charger in to my normally discharged batteries and after an hour or so check the incoming aperage with a test meter at some point say an hour or two there will be movement in the amount of charge being applied. When the input charge is 30 amps my battery is fully charged. he also said with some experience I will be able to know how long to set the charger by where the charger needle indicator registers upon initial start up. This has proved to be true for me. Battery size, type and condition will determine optimum time for you and your rig. I will say that the charge I now get with the Lester charger is far superior to my onboard charger. Be aware that the graduated charge does produce battery gasses which are corrosive(all chargers do) so by charging with the hatch open the fumes can dissipate and not corrode metal parts in the bilge area. If your charger is different or someone contradicts my memory call Scott in parts for the contacts name at Lester and they will be happy to enlighten you. But ,if memory serves, 30 amps was the key regards, Bob Olinski
Been using the 36V Lester for 3 years with great results. Much better than any on-board Ive ever worked with. Very rarely had to turn mine up past 4; usually 3 hours will top them off. Make sure, as Bobcat said, to open the rear hatch when charging. May be the last charger youll ever own.
Thanks all, I normally raise the rear hatch with any charger I use. I just didnt know what setting to put it on.
It will not take long once it has refreshed your batteries to achieve a charge. Kevins suggested 3-4 hours should be more than enough for most. We still use the timer models, though they make auto styles. The firm on & off is hard to beat as there is no forgetting to unplug it and cooking the cells.
Thanks all, you was right about the gasses. That is the first time I have really smelled them.
BCB, I dont find these on your Parts Page for sale. If I can order it from you, how much do they run? or Do we need to order these directly from Lester? T. Moss, 2007 Puma – Mercury 250 ProXS Chickasha, OK
Ok all, I have got to used my charger twice now. I put it on 4 both time. The needle never most from around 22 the whole time. Should I put it on a higher setting? The instruction says it should go down to 1 to 4 amp when finished charging.
It sounds like your batteries needed some boosting. Yes try a longer setting to 6 or so.
Should have asked if it will charge both lead acid and AGM.thanks

Thanks,Does it have an automatic shut off?RJ
On timers.
Yes it will! You can not charge 24 volts with a 36 volt system. He should get an inexpensive 12 volt charger and just charge each one separately till he resolve his charger issue.
Yes most will have to take on the road as it is fairly expensive to have almost $1000 tied up in battery chargers. I would say that BCB shys away from onboard charges because they all pretty much suck!
The failure rate is higher for onboard chargers than BCB would like. The cost for Lester is not significantly different than an onboard charger. You can also get a bargain on NOCO chargers now on Amazon. They pay more than BCB though online the cost has been significantly less than that amount.
