We just lay it back against the deck and that is why it does not have a shock. A shock could probably be mounted on one though it also rests against the gunnel. BCB
I think Texas is referring to the big lid behind the drivers seat…I agree it needs a shock as well…
That lid lays against the top deck and gunnel on the starboard side top. It doesnt have to be held open as it fully folds we believe. Though we will verify with tooling staff on the design and have them review that.
The passenger side lid rests on the gunwale , drivers side does not…its the big trapezoid looking one
correct. I am referring to the biggest one.. There is not way it can rest.. it barley opens all the up.. the slightest touch and it comes crashing over.. hitting people in the heard or arms.. that is not a good experience for some folks.
TexasMo what kind of speed are you seeing with that SHO? What prop? I think the factory guys said the Caracal likes the SHO a little better, was curious how it was running for you.
Bama: I am getting low 70s out of her.. sometime 75. depending who is in there with me.With all of this hot water I should go up to a bigger prop.. to get better top end.. but I am fine where she is at.. I am running a 26 Yamaha Prop
I have brought this up before.. thought I would post again.Has BCB come up with a gas shock for the bigger deck lid on the rear of the Caracal? This thing, with out a gas shock to hold it open, is getting some negative responses from my Co anglers and the GF.. it actually hit her in the head.. which was not good and to me seems unsafe. Is there a way a gas shock can be installed on this lid? Is the biggest lid on the boat.. and the only one without a gas shock.. I really think it needs one.Thoughts?Mo
No one ever opens the rear lids except me.
How many people?
every person that I have taken to the lake.. it is the big storage compartment, so most of my co-anglers put there stuff in there. It jsut needs a simple gas shock like ALL of the other lids on the boat. not sure why BCB does not put one on this lid.. makes not sense.I will be happy to do it myself.. just need to know which shock I can buy..
If it were me I would get the one BCB has in the parts and mount it like the lids that have one.
No BCB model has the shock for the lid covering the bilge. Designed such so that it can be removed for working in the bilge area. Not sure why anyone would want to store anything back there as it certainly isnt going to be dry plus gas, oil, battery gases. BCB is not the only mfg. that doesnt have the shock. I believe that most others dont as well. To add a shock you will need to weld or bolt a bracket to the bottom of the lid and screw another bracket on to the lip of the fiberglass at the bottom. Take a look at one of your other compartments and it will give an idea of what needs to be done. Those shocks can be purchased just about anywhere.
Just do it like a front box with shock on the side. Can easily get a shock of whatever poundage you need. Would get a long shock and all the hardware from BCB. Email parts and ask and go for it. Worse case you put some holes in the lid lip you can fill in with black marine tex.Dont be chicken! It aint like you gonna take a hole saw to it- itll be cool when you are doneC.O.D. Jr. III
Phil,I believe he is asking about the 2 lids right behind the driver and passenger seats on the Caracal and not the bilge compartment.GeorgeGeorge
