Ive heard that they will help holeshot some, but shouldnt have any effect on top end speed or fuel economy i dont think. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
No effect on hole shot times, though it will seem faster due to the angle of the hole shot. They will have no effect on top end either. They DO help mid range performance and fuel mileage. BCB
thanks BCB.. Maybe it would pay for itself as high as gas is….
oops, guess i was off on that one. Thanks BCB for the correction KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
thats cool! It wont help a lot, though it does help some. It could change to some folks advantage in skinny water to get the transom up sooner. The fuel mileage increase at mid range is not very significant. BCB
I run one on my trash water boat (not a cat) and it makes it jump up in just a few feet of travel. Very handy when Im not sure how much water I have to get up on pad to clear the next gravel bar. I think it actually hurts my top end on that boat. I took it off and ran the boat without out for a while and it sure seemed to be a couple MPH faster on the GPS.–Bob La Londe Forums, Free Lures, Product Reviewswww.YumaBassMan.com CNC Molds N Stuffwww.CNCMOLDS.com
I put a bobs fin on my PII w/ 200 EFI. It helped the holeshot some difference, but not as much as I had hoped. I could not notice any difference on top end. I would take a look at the bobs.
Im running a 2.5 200 and I needed some help on hole shot so I gave the EDGE a try it is not plastic and gawdy it is made from aluminum. it helped my hole shot a bunch. It keeps the nose down better and is a little quicker out of the hole. It did not affect my top end at all. and I can stay on a plane at allot slower speeds. but it still aint no 3.0.
We have done extensive work with these, and most do not reduce the actual time to 30 MPH, though they do seem like it. There are exceptions to the rules, though the mid range benefits are there. BCB
While browsing through my new Bass Pro Cat. I saw these for sale. They say they help top end and fuel economy. Do any of you guys run one of these on your Cats?..I have used them on small motors and they do help the boat jump up… but didnt know what would happen on my 200 opti……
There are several types and styles. Some help and decrease hole shot times, others just make it appear as increasing by changing hull attitude.
I ran a SE300 on my 91 P2 with a 150 Suzuki and it definitely helped my hole shot, and did not hurt the top end. The only problem was getting use too the change when the hydrofoil would come out of the water as you trimmed up and speed increased, it changed handling characteristics by a good bit at that point.
What kind of boat do you have? Based on your name, Im guessing its not a BassCat?You really dont need it on any of the newer BassCat boats…13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
I put a Brians foil on my 2010 puma ftd. (In summer time full live wells, two people and tournament load it was a slug.)The foil was about like going down a pitch in prop. It also helps keep nose down a little better while cruising slow.I dont notice any difference while on plane or turning. At first When I came off pad I could feel it catch and pick the back end up some (or so it seemed) but now I dont notice that as I guess I adjusted how I come off plane. It came naturally to me to adjust so no big deal.I also have noticed I can back up a little faster without backwash coming overboard if trim is adjusted correctly
I would not have one but Thankfully I do not need one with my Pantera II and 200HP Pro XS.Dan
