I saw a list on bassfan.com of the guys who will not be fishing the Elite series this year and they gave a reason for a few of them. Marty Stone is on the list. I was hoping to get lucky enough to be his marshall when the Elites come to Toledo Bend. I hope it was just a personal decision to not fish this year and that he will be back. Great story, thanks for sharing. Marty is a great spokesperson for BCB and a super nice guy. Judd Lasiter
I saw that too. Marty seems like a real good guy i hope he makes it back. I also saw Byron Velvick is going to miss the season due to a medical reason. Does anyone know whats wrong with him?
Just dont assume anything yet on Marty.
….was wearing a neck brace, and had just had cervical fusion surgery. He was in Nashville for the B/U weekend about a month ago, and said he was not sure what he would be able to do.Whitten
BCBs…..I know what happens when you “assume”. HAHAHA!!!!!!Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
I spoke with Marty briefly in November at a mutual friend funeral. He told me he was weighing his options at that time. His boys are growing up fast and he is enjoying spending time with them. Marty is a good guy with strong family values. I am sure whatever he decides is what will be best for him and his family. I am sure Marty will be invloved in fishing in one capacity or another. He is a great ambassador to the sport of fishing.
Being away from the family has got to be the toughest part of being a professional angler, especially when children are involved. My hat goes off to those who take a step back and decide that their family is more important.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
I have had the honor of knowing Marty since he was poor and sleeping in his truck to fish. I sold the first boat he won years ago for him and he helped me above and beyond when I had Bass Cat. He is one I can count on and call him a friend. He is a great rep for this sport and Bass Cat. I hope he returns to the spotlight soon and I know we will see him at some major happenings around the country. Never count a person like Marty out. Marty is “Good People” and when you do good, good comes back to you.Godspeed, Mark
I have had the surgery and understand what Byron is going through. My Dr. told me no boat rides for six months! I had mine done in 2003 and so far everything has been fine. Well I can sometimes tell when it is going to rain or snow! Part of why I wanted a BassCat was to protect the neck. That has something to do with why I am impressed with the Jag also (well maybe just a small reason).
From Marty Stones Facebook page – Marty Stone has retired from pro tournament fishing, my passion & only career for 20 years. Im thankful for choices. Im grateful for the continued support from family, friends, peers, sponsors & fans. Ill still do limited appearances with a new venture or two in the works. Stay tuned! My new career(s) keep me closer to home w/ my wife & 2 children. Dream BIG! Pray BIGGER!I wish Marty good fortunes during his job transitions.
Clouse ( Phoenix Boats ) has been adding a few changes in the last few months but who knows Marty might have went to Legend .
Both are great boats, but still isnt a BCB!I have rode and drove both.
I think hes fishing FLW Tour, so Id guess he went with Ranger.
Verdict is still out on this one, though as of the last we know of Marty was still just sitting tight.
