With all sincerity, I would hate to be in the position that money dictates which boat is endorsed. While the economics of professional fishing is understandable, the boat should be of what is the best boat instead of which pays the most money. For example, there is a certain brand of trolling motor that I would not run for $100k/year. That brand could pay me a 100k/yr to keep my mouth shut and not build a web site called http://www.dontbuyaXXXtrollingmotor.com

When its your job youre talking about its a lot different than your personal life. How many people got pissed when their favorite NASCAR driver went to drive for another manufacturer, or your favorite football player went to a rival team? For the rest of us who arent fortunate enough to fish for a living, we need to think long and hard about what we buy. When we have to pay for these things and have to keep them for more than one year, a boat company like BassCat that is there for everyday little guy is super important.

With Martys situation he would never speak ill against BCB or their ownership. If you talked to him today he would only have positive things to say about the BCB. Marty has spoken well of BCB even after the decision to part ways. He is a class act guy who represents the industry very well. It was completley a business choice that he made just like others that promote and fish for a living have to do everyday.

I read that. Probably a pretty tough industry right now. It was interesting to read how there arent many pros making 100k in sponsor money. I bet that is playing into some of the retirements of late. I do agree with his thoughts on playing the game with just his money. The odds for most would probably be better in Vegas. Gambling your money is no way to make a living. I think pro fishing will either have to have some kind of breakthrough and change soon or there will be more part timers. Hopefully the industry is making a comeback.

Marty made a decision for his family and a wise one it would appear. He had an opportunity and took it. He also gets to continue and sleep in his own bed while fishing the area and be a commentator on MLF.
