Still trying to get this dialed in. since I purchased less than a year ago. 02 200hp Merc. Opti…..Rig runs great, handles great – running at 3 1/2 ” below the pad. Right at 5700 rpm @ WOT and 70 mph per gps (but not 100 % sure of accuracy, only one available to me). I have a 25 Tempest plus prop with 1 plug out now (tried with 2 out – too much blow out) Still verrrry slow coming out of the hole. I am 250# with 200# partner, no more than moderate load normally running – definitely not a heavy load at all other than body weight. Trying to find out from you in the know if a 24-25-26 4 blade, probably Trophy?? would do anything for hole shot and if so what about rpm and top end???? Thanks for any help……
Just a guess…………….24 Trophy. When you say slow coming out of the hole, how long?
As best as I can tell about 7 seconds…..front end gos way high when putting the hammer down. Once it rolls over it is fine but stays high too long. This is not my first boat, have had a number and would have thought this would be much quicker out of the hole than the others (19 Champions and Skeeters) as it is quite a bit lighter I believe. It is definitely slower to plane and its due to coming out so high but cannot get it down. Even when rolling a little quicker before hitting throttle does not help the front end come down any quicker……..thanks
Sounds likeva 24 or 25 Trophy is a nice option.
I assume you have the motor trimmed all the way down until it rolls over? One solution is to put one of those ugly fins on the ventilation plate, that will keep the nose down without hurting top end at all. But they are ugly as sin… When you slow down to come off plane, if you tuck the motor in, does it porpoise badly? If so you might need more weight forward, or if it has a non-factory jack plate it might be too much (12″ for example) as that moves the C/G back quite a bit and gives the motor fits trying to lift the rear up to get the bow down. In any case, big bass boats are not going to jump out of the water like racing boats, we have way too much crap in them…2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
It should be about 0 to 20 in 4 or 5 seconds as a standard at average. Some better and some worse. BCB
Thanks for the answers and info…..looks like most of my problem solved. Went out and re measured the prop shaft below the pad. Had stated it was 3.5″ below the pad……that was incorrect as it actually was almost 4.5″. Someone helped me on previous measurement and we were way off. Im sure my fault but looks like it is taken care of now. Readjusted jack plate to the 3.5 and it made a bigggg difference today. Gets up fine now…..thanks again……
That height adjustment should also help your top end quite a bit as well. In fact I would bet that you will be at the rev limiter on top end now that you picked it up. A one inch adjustment should be good for several hundred rpms. Im glad you got it to behave like you want. Most people only believe that being to high will hurt your holeshot but if you are too low it can hurt as well. Chris Coupel Paulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
I think i have a 24 trophy you can try. It has a ring on it. I may have the mercury insert too, i will have to check. I think im close to you so let me know.
Sorry,, Just called my son and he got rid of the trophy a couple of weeks ago. He was using it as a spare. Kids……..
