02 Classic with 200hp Optimax

My hole shot is not where I think it should be. I am 260# and my tourn. partner about 200#. Alll else seems to be fine. Running a 25 tempest prop now. Would either the Sting Ray XRlll Hydro Foil or Sports SE 300 help the hole shot very much. Have used the SE 300 on last couple of boats (Champions) and it helped quite a bit. Prefer not having to buy a new prop unless only way to get better hole shot…..front end really pops up quite high and little slow to come down on plane……………I know others have indicated this Classic with the Opti should be very quick out of the hole……………………thanks for any help…..

All three holes have an L….I assume that means plugs are large?????

Pull one of the plugs and see if it starts reving up when you get it on plane. If so, put it back in…mine does it for about 1 sec if I hold the throttle from a dead stop and that seems to be about perfect. I would never recommend putting on a hydrofoil…that in my opinion is a cover up for a setup issue that can be addressed otherwise. I have two plugs removed out of mine and it comes out really nice.

Basschaser is right, take one of the plugs out, shell get out quicker, will enabble your prop to “Slip” a little on the initial surge. I have the same prop . But I have two plugs out. But I have the 2.5 litre 200 HP merc. Not as much grunt as the Opti. I had a 200 Opti on a TR 21 Triton with a 25 Tempest Plus with one plug removed, it worked great. Showdawg

I think the “hydro-foil” just give you the illusion that your are planing quicker, If you will clock your 0-40 time it probably wouldnt be enough to mention. Showdawg

I know this is going to sound dumb but I have never had to remove a plug. Do these just pop out with pressure???????????

I use a pocket knife and slide it between the prop and the plug and just pry it out. Another option is to take a pair of needle nose pliers and just grab a hold of it since it is the L hole and pull it out. Wear glasses or watch if you use a pocket knife cuz it will shoot out of there if you give it enough pressure. Sometimes you tear them up getting them out and sometimes if you are careful you wont. They are cheap and almost every dealer has them on hand, as well as most prop shops. Good luck. JL

They best thing to use for removal of the PVS Plugs is a brake spring tool. That little critter will spring them out of there easily, and twist them out as if using a cam action. Then you slip the new ones in using the points end and use the handle to tamp them in place. BCB
