Trying to find help on an electrical issue. I have a 2005 Pantera IV running two graphs, no power poles or other peripheral items. I recently upgraded my depth finders to Carbon Units (9″ front and 12″ at console) The front unit was giving me problems as it was blinking off and then back on every 10 seconds or so. Occasionally, it would flash off and I would need to restart it. No issues with the 12″ at the console. Thought that I might have a battery issue so I replaced it with a new Optima Blue Top. Front unit continued to blink at me. I made a jumper wired to run from the rear battery and connect straight to the front unit. Problem solve…….almost. Now the Unit at the console is blinking off when I start the motor but the front unit stays on steady. Do PIV’s have issues with wiring or dirty/rusty master switch’s ? Something that might cause this power diversion? Or do these new graphs require more power than the original wiring can provide? Am I looking at a rewiring upgrade? BTW, the jumper wire that I ran to the front unit is very beefy, non-stranded 12 gauge. Thanks all.

Only one of two things
1. Bad Ground
2. Loose connection in power or ground wire.
The fact that you ran, I assume, just a power jumper wire and it worked, then it is on the power side. Check all connections anywhere you can find them. Something is loose or corroded on the power side of the circuit your pulling power from.

same problems with my units I ran direct wire from all units straight back to battery with a master cutoff on them Problem solved

OK, thanks. I’ll check the connections for looseness or corrosion. Finding none, I will run new wires to units and back to a Perko Switch. I like the Perko switch idea.

Certainly does sound like a power related issue. Direct wiring as suggested usually resolves this. If not, then the Blue Top may be the issue. Because of their spiral construction, Optima batteries have a much smaller reserve capacity than others of the same group size. Todays bass boats need crank batteries with high reserve because of the electrical demand of graphs, poles, livewells, etc. Hopefully the Blue Top that you purchased is a group 31.
