Im going to replace the fuel lines on my 05 Sabre from the fuel pump to the motor, complete job. Im just looking for reassurance or for someone who has done this job before. Im assuming the Seats have to be removed, then the floor pan above the belly tank, all those square bits. Then the fuel pump and lines are visible ? Where do the fuel lines route, through the Starboard side rigging tube, or what ? Im looking to take mine apart so I can get an accurate measurement of fuel line length, anyone know a good estimation ?? Any info you can provide I would appreciate. From the bulb to my Mercury installed fuel water seperator, to the motor all makes sense to me, just not the out of view parts. Thanks…2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
You do not have to remove the fuel lines as all black Bass Cat fuel lines are ethanol resistant and have been for 25 years. The only line in your boat that is not A1 or A2 is the fuel engine lines provided or purchased from the engine companies. Look for writing on the lines that indicates A1, A2, B1 or B2 and your covered. The writing color on a Mercury line also indicates its ethanol resistance, though it has to have the ethanol indicator lettering also. One of those little things the first owner paid for in the quality of product. Its one of those little things owners pay for today also as small things on a BCB are not done on many other brands. We have a very few out there with B grade and A2 lines as vendors pressed those through purchasing by telling them they were ethanol resistant and we did not have to pay the premium. While that is accurate approval for that change was not sought. Bass Cat top end management has always specified A1 lines where we can purchase them. We would rather pay the premium for hoses that last longer and are not degraded by chemicals in fuels. Little things mean a lot and BCB owners dont have to worry about changing $150 to $200 in hoses (plus labor) because for over 25 years we bought the best we could at the time the boat was built.

Thanks for the reply BCB, and its exactly why I bought a Cat in the first place. Secondly thanks for bumping the post to the top I guess I should have checked the forum this morning. Im staring at the boat now so Im going to go thru with the repair anyway. I want to know the lines are all good so I can continue my “diagnosis”. The problem: 05 Mercury XR6 Carb. Every year it gets harder and harder to start cold. Its embarrassing cranking that engine on that shiny boat so long. Does it need a carb freshening, well see? Id rather put $200 into it now myself then take a Grand to the shop if I dont need to. Long overdue Preventive maintenance I guess you can call it. Ill keep you posted, I should know how to access the fuel pump soon enough.2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
Original owner, bought the boat from Jim Wells in Fruitland Idaho. One state away, never seen the guy again yet, I guess thats a good thing, no major problems.2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
The hoses will not ethanol deteriorate in 10 years or so. The engine fuel lines will be your issue and the fuel pump on the engine, as well as the primer bulb.
Time flies, I never wrote down when the last primer bulb was. 2 years ago at the very worst. The thick hose from the tank to the fuel water separator is a black hose with a red stripe. from the primer bulb into the engine wiring shield thing is gray hose with a C on it I believe.2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
I know alot want agree with this .but I had a xr4. Had it well over 20 yrs. After a couple year of ownership I undone the oil drive. On the motor. Mixed my own oil. After each trip on the water pulled the fuel line let it run out of gas. Never one minutes trouble with fuels lines. Stop up carbs. If I could do this to my pro xs I would. Unfortunately I cant. But if u got carbs it might be a thought. My dad always done it to his outboards. Its proven not leaving fuel in the motor side works as far as eliminating carb. I was planning on buying all new lines on BBC European marine, since they help out on that forum. But as Im standing here staring at it, the easiest route would be buy a primer bulb local and 6 feet of A1 to replace this grey mercury line that shows no a1 b1 b2 crap anywhere on it. and see where that gets me. Grey line has a C then a long part #. I can write iton here if that helps. the grey goes from the primer bulb into the engine sleeve and then splices into a black hose for 1 foot until it hits the oil line reservoir part. only had my boat at two different shops for normal lower unit services and minor tune ups2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
this engine hasnt started like a champ in about 4 years. it used to be a 10 second hold in the key and it was good to go.2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
