Hey Guys,Im looking at a 06 classic with a 2.5 200 EFI.any comments on how the 2.5 EFI 200hp performs on a classic?

I had that same motor, and the only advice I would give you is to try and find that boat with an Optimax instead of the EFI. My 250 ProXS gets much better fuel economy than my 200 EFI.

Fishfry, I have a buddy whos got that same setup and it will run 70 fully loaded w/2 big guys, full wells, full fuel. 73 or so light load. I like the reliability of the efi less to go wrong. If run wide open alot you wont notice much difference in fuel savings. Have a compression check and pull a history on the Merc. Hope this helps, John

I have an 02 same setup and i keep mine loaded with tackle and gas and it runs 69 with me and a partner and i weigh 240 it has been a great motor so far doesnt do great on fuel but if you run about 4500 rpms it does as good as any it is when your around 6k they drink it and it you set your jack plate flush they arent much of a chore to drive i really like mine my only complaint i could think of would be the hole for the seat pole being to close but i am a tall guy so it may not matter to most, the fastest i have seen on mine is 72 with me alone but i havent tried it since its been cold i just dont run mine hard very often bout 5500 is usually tops for me

Oh and it rides really good and in rough water it does better going about 45 than it does 25

Mine is an 04 w/ the same engine. No complaints here. It really runs good.

I have an 05 Classic with 04 200 EFI. Runs great, low to mid 70s. It does like gas at WOT though. But, if I run it around 4400 to 4600 rpm it does OK. The way I look at, for the $2000 to $2300 difference in price I would of had to pay for an Opti, I can buy a lot of gas. Another thing also is that the 2.5 EFI Mercs are bullet proof. I just love my Pantera!!

I have an 06 Classic with a 2.5. running a 25p Tempest + It is a little slow out of the hole due to the lack of low end grunt compared to the 3.0 but it will run consistent 73mph gps. Watch your water pressure close. Do to the 2.5s lack of low water pick ups the water pressure drops off in turns if you do not trim it down.
