I am replacing the equalizers, shackle straps and shackle bolts on each side of my trailer. I replaced everything on the starboard side and it when good. Remove the old parts on the port side and installed the new equalizer. I was going to put the shackle straps on when I noticed the rear leaf spring was not in line with the equalizer, off to the outside about a 1/2″. I can get it all bolted back up but am thinking there may be a problem. Is the leaf spring bent or is it out of alignment on the axle? Anybody ever have this happen on there trailer?
Ill be following this because I just did the same including new leaf springs on my 04 Cougar and also had a slight alignment problem. Since I was able to snug it all up, I just went ahead with it, but I was wondering if there was something wrong or something else I should have done.
Silly question, but did you also replace the spring bushings?

Yes, replaced all parts except for the leaf springs. I am going to call the factory tomorrow to see what they say, I will report back.
We think realigning the springs but loosening the bolts is your best option. Over time its hard to say what your facing.

I’ll have to look for the size. I know I had measured mine and they had flattened some so they measured longer than what I ordered. I also got 6 leafs instead of the 4 that were on it. I believe I got springs rated for 3500lbs. According to the specs a Cougar Advantage is around 1800lbs, so I figured with all my gear I should still not come close to 3500lbs. I ordered 25 1/4″ leaf springs. Here is a link to the ones I got: http://www.sturdybuiltonline.com/25-14- … p_298.html
I talked to one of the guys in the trailer shop and he said that if one of the hangers was bent I should be able to see it. We talked for a few minutes and he said to just bolt it up and see how it does after trailering a few miles. So it looks like I am going to do like you toledobasser and hope it straightens it shelf out. Toledobasser have you noticed any problems with your trailer since you did your trailer work?
I’ve only used it once since and that was only a 2 mile trip back from the ramp after putting my boat back on the trailer after completing the work. It was definitey quieter with all the new bushings in place.
