Tagged: Electrical issues
Last night on my 2016 p2 I noticed smoke coming from the 12v electrical outlet. I killed the power switch and saw the hot and ground wires were touching each other. I then separated the wires and now my horn , and bilge pumps no longer work on the main panel (A10 ) and the small accessory panel accessories, pump in , pump out and security are also not working. Can you please tell me where to start looking. I’m hopeful that this is covered by warranty but not sure.
Is anything working? If not, there should be a 20 amp breaker on the power wire near the battery
Let your dealership handle it.
Yes sir but I don’t have a dealer around. I bought the boat used in Texas which is 5 hrs away. I was just hoping to get pointed in the right direction. It’s a 2016 and was told still under warranty but not sure how to confirm. I just bought the boat. Any suggestions would be appreciated sir. I’m from Louisiana.

What area are you located in? And did you transfer the Lifetime Structural Warranty and Register for Quest?

If you are in Louisiana you are never 5 hours away from a BCB dealer. Maybe 3 hours. There is a dealer in Jena, La. and Monroe La. The main issue would be that you transferred warranty thru Quest, as BCB stated.
Just bought the boat and didn’t know I needed to transfer the warranty. Seller told me dealers went off of the boat serial number and I didn’t need to do anything. It would be about my luck though that the warranty would not cove this or that the warranty wasn’t transferrable. I also have the Minnkota ultrex with the plastic wire housing that’s broken they covered parts under warranty and sent The parts to him and he just mailed them to me.
Im assuming you did check the little round breaker at the master power switch at the drivers seat?
Yes sir it has continuity on both sides.
Bryce,
they will cover the boat within 2 years, though it does not qualify to earn incentives in Que$t and the Lifetime Warranty does come along with Que$t membership.
Another place to check is terminal block on the back of the boat(starboard) for loose connection. Be sure and physically kinda handle the wires both hot and grounds. It is a true pain to get to though many problems derive there. Just another thought. Also another thought is to unplug the a 10 panel on the backside and leave it unplugged for a bit and let it reboot.

JUST A FOLLOW UP ALL ISSUES ARE NOW RESOLVED! Thank each of you for the help. NOW I NEED TO TRANSFER THE WARRANTY. I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH CHECK THE BUSS BAR VERY CLOSE. I CHECKED IT TWICE AND WAS SURE IT WAS GOOD. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND THAT 3 Hot Red wires and 2 black wires located on the bottom left of buss bar on transom were completely burned off. The only reason I know is because they were behind the back battery in a pile of melted rubber. I rewired the 1st one BOTTOM LEFT SINGLE RED (hot) to 2nd LUG RED WITH A JUMPER to a 3 rd RED THEN 4th and 5 th were BLACK JUMPERS. NOTE.. CAUSE OF THIS TROUBLE 12v OUTLET PLUG HOT WIRE CAME LOOSE AND FELL ON THE GROUND WIRE SHORTING ALL THIS OUT. With all this burnt CRAP THE engine ran fine , A10 lit up and everything worked except Bilge pumps and Horn. I also had no power to 2nd small panel which controls Security, Acc , Pump In and Out. Now everything works even stuff I didn’t know I had. Lol… I hope this helps anyone who may run into this trouble. Thank you for the support. God Bless, Bryce Fontenot Sincerely , a proud BASSCAT owner.
This is great to kno! Though i had my great suspisions on this. My bigger concern is why did either of the quick reset breakers not trip? Conerning the buss bar. Through the yrs ive had several issues at this location. Though since i removed ever connection and recrimped and applied dieelectric grease i have had not one issue.
