Hello fellows, I am looking at a Pantera Classic with a 150 XR6. I would like to hear the pros and cons with this motor over the EFI. My last boat was a 482VS Ranger with a 150EFI and I had no problems with . My buddy bought a Saber last year and I really like this rig but would like a liitle more room this is why I am looking at the Pantera Classic with XR6. Thanks for the help.

XR6 is the same motor as a EFI but in a carbed version. They are a little more cold natured first thing in the morning but from there out they will fire just like your EFI. Have a old owner show you how to cold start the thing and you wont have any problems. That is the only difference in my opinion from an operators standpoint. I do not know about the XR6 but I had a Mariner Mag II which is the equivalent to a Mercury XR4 and the other difference it had was it used the small lower unit. You could only run small diameter hub props on that motor. At the time the other motors ran a 1.87:1 gear ratio large hub lower unit and the XR4 ran a 1.78:1 small hub lower unit. If the XR6 still used the small hub lower unit it might limit the prop options such as borrowing a prop from a buddy to test it. My Mag II was a great engine. Mike Coffee

The main difference between XR6 and EFI is fuel economy, both are good motors
