Does anyone have a Sabre with a 175 etec motor on it.Am looking at buying one for my 2006 Sabre and was wanting some input good or bad about the motor.
It will run similar to a 150 HO Evinrude
I am running 2008 Sabre but with the 150 HO. Rumors say that it is running close to 181HP.Performance is unbeleivable with an Etec/Sabre combo. If Brannon gets on here he will probably be able to tell you what the differences are between the 150HO to the 175 Etec.I dont think between these two engines your going to see much difference. He will probably tell you about some tests that were done in France with a regular 150 Etec that was also putting out that 181HP.I have not heard of the 175s running at higher HPs like the 150, but who knows they might have that 10-15% fudge factor also. What year motor are you putting on your boat?
Nope, same engine as your 150 HO.
Now I know why those other 150 engine owners arent happy when I am passing them up.If my boat is running those HP it just makes sense why I am seeing similar numbers to JohnMs 175 Merc powered Sabre FTD.Hopefully at next years OI John and I can team up and run each others boat and see if we get the same results.
Can you tell me what your GPS MPH is on your boat With the 150 HO?With the Mercury XR6 150 i run between 59 to 65 MPH i have had the carbs opened up and timing advanced.I am looking at doing after market reed valves to see if that helps out.
I am seeing 63 gps with a very heavy tournament load. I forgot to say that I have the FTD model and with the extra storage compartment upfront lets just say I am way heavy. From your pictures I see that you have the regular Sabre. Talk with Flyswatter about how the regular Sabre runs with the 150 Etec HO on it. If memory serves me correct he was consistantly between 65 and 67 all day long and even maxed it out on his quest at 70.1 mph. I beleive he had a 2007 Sabre which I dont think the hulls are that much different than yours.Hopefully this gives you enough info.Ron
Thanks for the input. My boat has every compartment full includeing a spare ss 4 blade prop.I was hoping i could get my boat to run in the lo 70s to mid 70s if i moved up to a 150HO or 175.To spend $14,000.00 plus and only get maybe 5 more MPH i dont thank i would gain that much more. As i inditated, depending on how smooth the water is usunlly makes the difference in my boat going between 60 to 65 MPH on GPS
I had a 2008 Sabre/2007 Evinrude Etec 150HO.Best Speed freezing my tush off, no current 70mph on the GPS. Also, had the heavy minn kota TM on the bow and front storage box stacked full of tackle extending to and slightly past the front seat pedestal. Disclaimer: Got to be be fair here. I had a Single Console (about a 1.5mph gain) and my boat was 40lb lighter then the FTD but per Ivan the much heavier Minn Kota cost me about 1.5mph off top end too. Per Brannon get to magical 5900 RPMs and youll get extra 10 ponies to kick in. I am glad I didnt know that back then. It would have cost me more money chasing that d@%m rpm rabbit! TO BE CLEAR I am not saying this setup is better then competing brands on performance but am saying it is a dynamite setup. Youll enjoy it for sure. Also, I spent a tremendous amount of time doing this so expect some dedicated seat time, frustrations and hopefully some exhilarating fist pumping. IF you do you will be surprised and impressed. My Etec liked to be trimmed high and high in the saddle too. I would agree with BassCat. Id get the 150HO over the 175 Regular Evinrude if it was my money. Good Luck!
Thanks for your help.
