I just purchased this boat a couple weeks ago, it runs great and is in excellent condition. The only real problem is that the only guage that works on the console it the speedometer. The guy I bought if from said none of them worked when he got it except the speedo and pressure guage. He figured the pressure guage got a grain of sand in the tube so thats why it doesnt work. I noticed out yesterday the fuel guage bounced when I his some rough water. The tank was at least 1/2 or 3/4 full.I need some advice, information, and possibly maual pages to take this on, I have electrical knowledge and know the schematic helps alot. If someone can help me out Id be willing to pay for the manual or copies and shipping.ChuckLast edited by rathbuc on May 15th, 2011, 9:52 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Congrats on the Sabre. There is no manual for the boat so to speak, the Owners Board is your manual. There would be only manuals for the engine or electronics. You can call BassCat at the factory and they may have the wiring schematics that they can fax or email to you for electrical. Contact ]. i had fuel guage problems when i got my 94PII. first thing i would do is check the guage by grounding it out and seeing if it has full range of motion. if it does, then i would pull your fuel sending unit from the tank and test it. first thing, make sure your float , well….floats. that should be easy enough with 1/2 tank of fuel in the tank. if your good so far, check the potentiometer in the sending unit with an ohm meter. if youre good to this point, you have a wiring problem. i would start at your ground, since the ground on mine goes from the common ground on the back of the boat through the sending unit and on to the guage. hope this helps a little.
Does the tach still work? Does it have a water pressure gauge or temperature gauge? If none of them worked that would tell me you may not a good ground. All the gauges use the ground but receive power from the respective inputs. The ground is on a wiring block on the transom behind the battery on the drivers side. If it is just the gas gauge I would check what Pointman821 said. The way we got around the gas gauges not working back in my partners 88 Pantera 2 and my 90 Pantera 2 was simple. Drain the tank. Go to the gas station and put gas in the gas tank one gallon at a time and use a magic marker to mark the gas tank. Number every few marks and you will always know how much gas is in the boat.
Thanks, yes it all helps. The gas guage was an electrical problem primarily, but I think the floats need to be cleaned also. None of the gauges work except the Speedometer. I took it in for a different problem, power trim motor burned out, ouch. Found a bad wire on the fuel tank connector, it now works, but not real well.Ill contact Bass Cat about the diagrams, luckly I have an electrical back ground if that is the problem.Doe anyone know the trick to starting a Mercury 150 XR6 when its cold? I seem to flood it every time. The guy I bought the boat from said to squeeze the fuel bulb until it gets pretty hard to squeeze, then choke it and it should fire. Doesnt work for me, once I get it running and warmed up its an awesome motor, but getting it to fire the first time without flooding it is killing me. Any advice would be appreciated.Chuck
My xr 6 was the same way. I followed the advice already given but learned it liked a little throttle. I did not have a hf so I disengaged the shifter before turning the key. As soon as it fired I would slightly rev the motor. Took some practice, too much or too little it would die. Once I got the hang of it just a few revs and we were good to go. I know this is not a technical answer but it worked for me.
We are suspect that your Voltage regulator is out.
Heres the latest:The fuel gage was a partially broken wire, it works not, yeah. The speedometer works, no other gages or the clock. Had an electrical problem with the bilge pumps, got that temporarily fixed with wire and a toggle. In the process of this I mistakenly took apart the Recirculator switch, now neither it or the aerator work. Ive figured out how to partially fix this. Replace the recirculator switch with the “unused” bilge switch. The problem I have I need to know which wires got to which terminal on the plug so I know I have it right. With my electrical back ground Im assuming the hot(s) got to the center and the outside are dependent on manual or auto, with the auto feeding through the reostat? If any one can help me Id be so greatful. I have a charity tournament to fish in Saturday and will be taking a veteran out and would hate to loose any fish due to my ineptness. If youd like you can email me at chuck_r_62@yahoo.com also. Thanks and keep your tip up.Chuck
That could be the answer to most of my electrical problems, seems like very time I get one thing figured out it affects something else. Besides guages, I also have a drain somewhere on my cranking battery, has left me stranded a couple times. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Also any website or instructions on installing a trim guage and sending unit, would really like to get that installed and the tach working. So I have more working knowledge when running on the water. Thanks for all your help.Chuck
