I have a 95 Pantera 11 with almost frozen steering It has a 150 yamaha with single steering tube . The one in the boat was a double cable which i only used one cable and it worked good. Any thoughts on which unit to replace this old steering unit with and not have to alter dash? Or anyone have a hydro steering unit used but good they might sell Ty

got mine from Bassscat. my boat 93 Pll, same problem stiff steering, works like a dream now.

Call the parts department at the factory. They have replacement steering cables.Thanks,Mike

I had a 88 model caracal. Sometimes if u can remove the steering rod from the front of the motor and take a drill with gun barrel cleaning brush with wd 40 and clean the tube .alot of times this with help immensely.also save u a few dollars and alot of headache2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

I just replaced the cables in my 96 PII yesterday. Wasnt that bad. A lot of motor wiggling but now it works like a charm. You may want to check your helm for stiffness as well.

Second vote to call parts. I put the replacement cables on my 90 P2 when I had it. They work great. There are some threads in the history about pumping oil into them to free them up if you are having a binding issue. Also pumping oil into the new cables is discussed as well. I think BCB prefers two cables over hydraulic anyway. It was amazing how smooth the new cable were.

You need both cables.. 150 and up .never try home remedies. The only place you lube are the tilt tube cables with white lithium grease or similar to merc 2-4-c grease. BCB Does prefer cable to hydraulic and they suggest a complete replacement including helm when you do a change out.
