Buying a project boat 1997 Jag no motor. Looking at installing a 2007 250 Mercury pro xs. I already have the new id plate for the 250. Which prop should i be looking at 25 or 26 fury or is there a better prop for the hull? Thanks Arthur

I have a 1997 Jag also with a Mercury 225 EFI , powerhead went out, cracked crankshaft so looking for another motor. This boat was rated for a 245 HP. I would love to put a 250 on it. You say you have a new id plate for a 250 HP, where did you get your new id plate? Are you talking about the horsepower rating? Thanks Marion

My 1998 Jag has 265 hp rating…contact the factory and they can make a new plate in some cases. My Jag really likes a 4 blade prop…Trophy, Powertek TRO4, Renegade, and Shooter all work well for me…I use 25 pitch…but im running a Johnson 225HO…so I cant speak to what your Merc may need. Contact Jason at the factory. I got my boat home today time to start working on it. Money is tight this time of the year so it will be a slow going for i while.

They kept engines lower on horsepower as the high perf engines didn’t offer any performance years ago, unless they went with the 2.5 block minute motors. Customer satisfaction was the goal in 245/265/285 HP labels. They will provide relabeling to allow 250 engines.

We don’t fully understand your question zookae?

The boat is rated within tolerances on some and they will provide a rating plate to accommodate the older Jaguar models that has 245 plates, they will not revise the 280-285 plate models.

They did not want the larger platforms on the boats back then and there were a variety, including a V6 Mercury 300 that weighed about 850 pounds at one time. OMC had a big 3.x liter block that was also a big V8 or V6 that was a massive platform at that time. Those are no longer a factor as engines have shrunk in relation to ponies.
